A one shot where Louis and Harry go to adopt a child.

"Are we sure we want to do this?" Louis asks for the fourth time that day. Harry and him had been discussing this for the last few months. Louis was still a little uneasy at the thought of being a father to children, however, Harry was pumped to be taking in children.
"It's too late to back out now, Lou," Harry reminds him. They had already scheduled a meeting with the director of the orphanage they were going to be looking at today. They already had two children in mind that they really wanted to look at.
Harry holds the door open for a very anxious Louis as they step in the nicely-kept building. It was nothing like Louis had seen in the movies. It felt very homey and definitely taken care off. Louis glances around and gulps. He had sung in front of millions of people, but he was nervous about adopting a child. He wouldn't be able to explain it if he tried, but the thought of being the guardian of a breathing child terrified him.
Louis slips his hand in Harry's as they make their way to the front desk. Harry glances at Louis and watches him bite his lip anxiously. Harry didn't know what had come upon the other boy. He was the one that suggested they adopt children. Louis had seemed so invested in the child thing. Maybe he was getting cold feet?
Harry pulls Louis to the side and scans his face trying to read Louis' facial expressions. He didn't want to continue if it made Louis uncomfortable.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to. We can leave and come back later if it makes you feel better," Harry suggests. The last thing he wanted to do was make Louis upset. Louis takes in a few breaths before nodding.
"No, we can do it today. I'm just nervous what if they don't like me? What if I'm a really bad parent?" Harry captures Louis' chin in his hand and forces Louis to look at him.
"You'll be a wonderful father! You work so well with Lux and all the children we meet on tour. You work great with kids so don't worry about whether they'll like you or not," Harry whispers. Louis nods and presses a quick kiss to Harry's lips before pushing away and heading to the front desk.
"How may I help you today?" The man stands and smiles at the pair. He starred at them for a moment before recognizing them as Harry and Louis from One Direction. His eyes widen and he takes a step back.
"You're the Tomlinson's! Fuck. I uh...one second. Mary!" The guy turns and shouts down a hallway. He turns back around and smiles at the two. Harry awkwardly smiles back at him. the woman, who Harry assumed was Mary, comes rushing out a room a moment later.
She was an average sized women with blue eyes and a slender nose. Her hair was long, ending right under her chest. She was blonde and parted her hair down the middle and had a kind smile.
"I'm sorry for the wait! I got caught up in a phone call. I've got the files in my office that you wanted to look at if you'll follow me," Harry and Louis follow Mary back to her office. She gestures for then to take a seat. Her office was piled high with different folders and books. Her desk was messy, but she tried her best to tidy it before Harry and Louis saw.
"So, you were interested in looking at Alice, correct?" She looks between the two. Louis smiles as he remembers the girl. They had come here a few weeks ago wanting to look at a few of the children. Alice had immediately caught Louis' attention. Harry gives a small nod as he looks at Louis who was still beyond nervous.
"Alright, here's her information," Mary says as he hands Harry the file containing everything they had on the girl. Louis and Harry glance over it; both of them deep down knowing that no matter what was in the file they wanted Alice.
"She looks great!" Harry smiles at Louis who bites his lip and places the folder back on Mary's desk. She looks at both of them as she stands.
"Well, I'll go get her!" Mary looked excited as she left the office leaving Harry and Louis on their own.
"Hazza are we sure about this? This is a kid...like an actual human being! What if they hate me! What if they think I'm fat or have weird hair! What if she's embarrassed to be seen with me!" Louis scrambles. Harry rolls his eyes. Louis had always been insecure. Harry hated how insecure Louis could really get at times, because Louis was amazing and Harry wished he could show Louis how amazing he was.
"Louis I promise you'll do amazing. I'm sure she'll be delighted to have a home. Besides you've always wanted to spoil a little kid, huh? Alice'll love the attention you give her!" Harry grabs Louis' hand and smiles at him as the door opens again.
Alice hestitantly steps in behind Mary. She looked just like her picture. Her skin was caramel and her hair dark. It hung low on her back, almost like a shadow. Louis watched as her eyes skipped across the room trying to take in her new environment. She held a backpack in one of her hands.
"Alice, meet your new parents!" Mary says, smiling as she gestures at Harry and Louis. Louis stands and waves at Alice awkwardly. Harry stands behind Louis, placing a hand on his lower back. Louis glances up at Harry who smiles at him.
"Hi Alice, I'm Louis...my husband and I...well we wanted to adopt you. If that's okay..." Louis says. Alice looks at Mary then back at Louis. She takes another step into the door. She looked like a startled deer as she made her way towards Louis.
"You want to adopt me? You're world known pop stars and you pick me?" Alice's voice was faint, barely above a whisper. Louis gives her a small nod as he moves to touch her shoulder. She flinches at first, but slowly lets Louis rest his hand there.
"You're a lovely girl and Harry and I think you'd make a great addition to our family. That is if you want to. We haven't signed any papers yet, but we were really hoping you would agree," Louis sighs. Harry smiles down at his husband. He knew that once he was with Alice he had nothing to worry about. Louis worked himself up too much for his own good, but here he was being a pro.
"Really? I would like that. Yeah. I would," Alice mutters. Louis smiles at her, "Is it okay if I give you a hug?" Louis asks. Alice's eyes widen and she tenses a little bit. She looks up at Harry before giving a small nod. Louis' eyes brighten as he leans down and engulfs the girl in a hug.
Harry almost feels tears come to his eyes as he watches the love of his life interact with his future daughter. It was a magical moment; one that Harry would cherish forever.
