Chapter 23- bonfire night

Annie's PoV:
Today is bonfire night which I am really excited about because at gymnastics were having a little party and then in the evening there is a party at the local football grounds.
Coach Mary said to wear bright colourful things to gym because it's bonfire night and me and Katie are going to wear matching leotards that look like this:

We got ready then said goodbye to Brennan who was getting ready for water polo.
Once we arrived at gym, me and Katie joined everyone else. We weren't actually going to do much gym in the first hour, instead we are doing a team challenge for gym school on YouTube. Coach Mary explained the challenge which was an obstacle course all around the gym, before Katie went first, everyone in total had to complete the obstacle course in under 11 minutes. It was originally 10 (1 for each coral girl)but coach Mary added on an extra minute for me because I would be a bit slower than everyone else dew to my ankle which was heeling. I was last so I waited for everyone else to go then it was my turn.
I limped as quick as I could go the bars, did a kip onto the high bar, then we had to do any move to get to the low bar. I did a pak salto and landed it I then forward rolled to the beam where I did a backwards walkover then jumped of I then did forward walkovers to the bouncy tumble track where I did front ariels on it. I reached the end then went into a handstand and walked on my hands to the finish which was the pit. We could do what ever we wanted so I did a double front flip in then stretched to finish. Everyone cheered then helped me out the pit. We all went over to coach Mary who had the time. It turned out we took 10 minutes and 47 seconds everyone cheered then we all went to have a quick break and a snack.
I noticed my phone was ringing so I picked it up and it was Brennan, I answered and he said:
Brennan: Hey, are you ok?
Annie: yeah I'm good thanks, my ankle is fine and has coursed no trouble so far.
Brennan: that's good I was worried it would be hurting, but if it's not, that's great.
Annie: yeah I think it's healing well.
Brennan: I'm happy for you, oh sorry I have to go now gorgeous. I'll see you soon.
I said goodbye to him then blew a kiss through the phone before he did the same to me. Then I ended the call and went back to practicing for the meet.
After 2 more hours of gym, everyone eventually finished and headed home, however as I was getting my stuff together I saw my mum dropping of Hayley again. As she walked past me I gave her a faint smile which she saw but ignored then hurried Hayley along. I frowned and wondered when they were going to talk to me again. It has been well over a month since the incident but she still won't even smile at me.

Me and Katie got home but Katie had to go to physical therapy with ms Jill, and mr Mike was at work so it was just Ryan, Brennan and I. Ryan wanted to do some 'stunt stuff' downstairs with us, so me and Brennan agreed. We put Katie's gym mat down then we were diving over chairs and even people onto the mat. It was actually really fun. The family and I were going to have dinner at the fireworks, so once Katie got back everyone got changed ready to go. I decided to wear this:

Everyone got in the car and we all drove to the rugby grounds where the fireworks were being held.
Once we arrived we found a table inside and ordered some dinner, me and Katie had hotdogs, Brennan, mr Mike and Ryan had a burger and Mrs Jill had fish and chips.
It was really nice but also filling so there was no room for desserts.
Everyone talked for a bit before it reached 8:00 which meant the fireworks were starting in 5 minutes. We made our way outside and stood near the front of a growing crowd trying to see the fireworks.
With no warning the fireworks started, it was an amazing display, I held Brennan's hand while we stared at the brightly coloured explosions in the sky. We thought it had finished so clapped when all of a sudden a massive firework filled the sky, wow what a grand finale. We went back inside to our table because it was getting cold and ordered some desserts.
A man stood up on a chair and said "ladies and gentlemen, can I introduce to you please, George Williams, the greatest magician around." When we first heard he was a magician we were a bit unsure and thought he would be for people Ryan's age or under but he actually turned out to be quite good. Ryan and a load of other kids went and sat near him to get a better view of his 'magic' Brennan yawned then put his arm around me. "Smooth Brennan." I said whilst laughing. He laughed as well before we continued watching the magician.

"I don't understand magic" I say to Brennan baffled at what we had just seen.
"Neither." Brennan said, also baffled.
It got to 10:00 and Ryan kept yawning so we decided to go home.
By the time we arrived home everyone went straight to bed including me and Brennan.
We both showered, then got ready for bed.
Brennan got into bed then I followed. There was a knock on the door and Mrs Jill entered, "hello sorry to disturb you but I just wanted to let Annie know that the forecast said that there may be thunderstorms tonight, so I'm going to leave the light on downstairs so you can go down there and watch the tv if you wake up in the night, is that ok?" She said.
"Yes thank you," I said slightly worried of the thunder.
"Ok goodnight" she said before leaving.
I frowned at the thought of thunderstorms, Brennan obviously saw this as he said to me "you'll be fine Annie, you are always brave and get through it." I smiled at this before we both said goodnight to each other, kissed then went to sleep.
In the middle of the night:
Brennan's PoV:
My eyes shot open and I sit up when there was a massive clap of thunder, it was so loud. I look over at Annie as another clap of thunder comes which makes her wake up. She sits up as well, I immediately hug her to comfort her as a flash of lightning comes. I'm actually really scared myself, I have never witnessed a thunderstorm this big before but I can't let Annie see this I have to be strong for her right now. I can hear her crying as another clap of thunder comes and she squeezes my back still hugging me. I pick her up as she wraps her legs around me and holds around my neck, still crying. I carry her downstairs and like my mum said the light was on but her and dad were down there as well. They had obviously slept down here incase any of us came down. They woke up as soon as they saw me and Annie coming down.
I sat down on the sofa keeping Annie on me, mum switched the tv on and we all sat down here trying to block out the loud thunder storm. I could feel Annie was still crying on my chest so I rubbed her back. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and we all looked up to see Katie and Ryan coming down the stairs. They joined us on the sofa and watched the tv. I looked back at Annie who still had her head buried into me. I stroked her hair whilst kissing her head.
Another clap of really loud thunder sounded which made Annie shake in my arms. I hugged her even tighter before whispering in her ear. "I've got you gorgeous and I'm never letting you go." Whilst stroking her hair in the hug. Everyone continued to sit downstairs and watch the TV. I looked down at Annie and saw that she was asleep so whispered to mum and asked her if she could pass us a blanket which she did. I through it over Annie and I before kissing her head and going to sleep myself. As I closed my eyes I saw my mum get up and come over to me. She whispered "your amazing Brennan, I'm so proud of you and how helped Annie through her hard times, I couldn't be a prouder mother." I opened my eyes and hugged her tightly still on the sofa with Annie on top of me. "I love you mum" I replied
"I love you too Brennan," she said before kissing my head and going upstairs. I lay back down, closed my eyes and went to sleep thinking how lucky I was: I had a mum that loved me unbelievable amounts, an awesome family, and a beautiful girlfriend who loved me as well, I couldn't be happier.
