Arcmagos's POV
I did not expect to face danger so early in our battle.
As per usual, it was not Chaot. As much as I wanted it to be her, it wasn't.
Instead, it was just another battalion of monsters.
They soared through the air, their soulless eyes seemingly staring us down.
Feliz yelled, "I'll go check on Eon! I promise I'll return, alright? I believe in you."
She ripped open the air, creating another rift. She jumped right through and in a flash, she was gone, the portal sealing back together.
I felt the energy within me flow into my hand, spraying from my fingertips and making bright purple orbs, floating a few inches away from my palms. I maneuvered the ball from one hand to the other, catching it over and over again and charging it, little by little. I smirked as I stared up at the monsters. They rocketed downward at us like missiles, ready to destroy.
But I was ready too.
The power I'd been maintaining was almost too much for me to bear.
With a loud grunt, I threw the ball right at the monsters. The first in the battalion darted to the left, turning to watch the ball of energy smash into the rest. An explosion sounded across the sky, dusting a dozen or so of the monsters. But still, the rest of the battalion darted down at us.
I watched as Maia rose into the sky, flying right at the monsters. I conjured up a bright purple ball and aimed at Maia, hoping I could direct the ball right to her wings. Feeling my aim lock on, I released the energy and watched it whiz through the air, watching as the energy homed in on her wings.
I could have sworn I saw a white and black ball going to Maia's wings as well.
Thanks, Blackout and Spotlight.
The three balls of energy smashed into Maia's wings.
She seemed unfazed by this as she ripped through the rest of the battalion, slashing an entire group of monsters in half with her wings. She circled around the remaining monsters and touched back down to the ground, her wings a pure yellow once again.
From my peripheral vision, I could see that the other monsters had retreated.
At least we wouldn't risk another encounter with them for a while, and I hoped that would be a long time.
Maia jogged up to me. I could hear her breathe heavily.
"I'll fly around the city and watch for Chaot. You and the rest-" she looked at the others- "can fight off the rest."
I smirked.
"Stop being such a lazy as--"
A hand slapped my shoulder. I turned around, almost blasting energy at whoever had slapped my shoulder. I relaxed when I found out it was Forestra.
Her brown-black hair was wild and seemed like a bird's nest (no pun intended). Her cheekbones were full of dust, perhaps from the monsters, and her hazel eyes were full of exhaustion.
She smiled weakly.
"Hey, guys... we fighting more monsters?..."
"Yup," I affirmed shakily.
"Maia, go find Chaot. If you do, stay out of sight. We can take care of the monsters."
I nodded at the others, and they nodded back.
"Ready, Maia?"
She nodded.
"Yeah, I'm ready. Question is: are they ready for me?"
