Riverflow's POV

Mae's cooking was flat out amazing.

The chicken was juicy and cooked to true perfection. The noodles bathed in sauce were heaven to my taste buds. It had a rich flavor, and, in fact, I was already full by the time I finished the first half of my plate.

I looked over and saw Pyroclast staring at me with a... weird expression.

"Riverflow, you dead hungry or something?"

"Maybe," I joked, grabbing my fork and stabbing it into another chunk of meat.

I was full, but I couldn't resist.

As I stuffed the chicken into my mouth, I looked up at Mae, about to thank her for the meal, but instead, she stared out the back door. Her already grey eyes were full of fear and she was paler than she already was.

"Mae, what's out there?" I asked, standing and leaning on the counter.

"SHE'S HERE!" Mae screamed.

She set her plate of spaghetti on the table and sprinted away straight for the staircase and flying right up.

I looked outside.

Now I saw why she was afraid.

I should have been afraid all along.

"Chaot," I seethed.

The rest of us were alarmed. Spotlight went around the counter next to me and followed my gaze.

"Be prepared, guys," Rocksworth commanded.

Forestra looked to Spotlight, trying to act brave.

"Spotlight, please go up to Mae's room and make sure she doesn't freak out too much. Protect her, and..."

I could see Forestra's eyes glistening.

"...if you have to... give your life for her..."

I honestly expected Spotlight to react against her, but instead, he nodded and ran upstairs like a soldier.

I nodded to Pyroclast and lurched out the glass door, ready to burst out and attack Chaot, but I felt a gentle hand clamp onto my wrist. I looked behind and saw Feliz, smiling softly.

"No, do not go out through there... but through here."

A loud scream pierced through the air, and I snapped my gaze outside in alarm.

Chaot had one arm locked tightly around Eon's neck. In her other hand was a glimmering knife. Maia struggled to get to Eon, but was being kicked away repeatedly by Chaot.

"We have to get out there!" Cyclone hissed.

"What plans do you have, Feliz?"

Feliz opened up a portal.

"This would lead to the roof. We'll attack from there, and I'll take Maia up there so we can plan."

"What about Eon?" Blackout entered.

"She'll be the pawn in the plan, and trust me. I know exactly what I'm doing," Feliz winked.

I jumped through the portal and found myself on an inclined plane. I felt anxious as I realized I was slipping. I looked down, and I found a solid brick chimney just a few feet away from me. Slowly, I let myself slip down until the chimney stopped me.

"You alright there?" a voice whispered. I looked up and saw Eon crouching down on a flat part of the roof.

I felt utterly humiliated.
