Cyclone's POV
It's been half a month since Mae's death, but I could clearly remember it like it was yesterday.
I remembered her bright green eyes.
When we first met her, she may have been serious, but as we got to know her, she slowly turned into a real girl.
A child.
And after months of cruel torture from Chaot, she had been rescued and brought home for the first time in a long time.
She was happy. Mae was happy where she was.
Worse, we vowed to protect the girl.
And what did we do?
Stand there and do nothing?
For days upon days, I conflicted and began hating myself for not running out, possibly taking the glass shards for her.
Instead, I had to endure something much worse painful.
I had to watch the girl, already pale and skinny, shrivel up into a scared little girl with blood all over her body.
But the balloons.
The balloons Maia had put under her body had floated away.
Maybe Mae had taken them out and floated away on them.
Hmm... was that why she loved balloons?
Was it because she just wanted to soar into the sky with them?
I felt really sad thinking about that.
She had dreams, like everyone else. But they weren't fulfilled. Mae died young.
Mae died young.
That sweet, innocent girl died---
No.
Don't dwell on it for too long. You watched your sister die before, you lost your twin sister when you were young, to the point you couldn't really remember her name, you watched that girl die in front of you, completely helpless--
Stop. Just... stop...
We had stayed at Mae's house, using it as a safe haven. I sat outside on the swing set, contemplating everything we'd been through and seen. Rocksworth was next to me, silent. I merely stared at the spot where Mae once lay, bleeding. There was a patch of dead grass there.
Dead.
I'd honestly expected Mae's parents to cone home, but they never did.
Did Mae even have parents?
What happened to them?
It was strange and sad to think that she even had parents.
Since my own parents... were killed when I was young. Around the same time I lost my twin.
No, Cyclone. Stop it!
They would have been worried sick to find that their daughter was kidnapped for months, tortured, and brought back.
Even worse, they'd be devastated to find that their daughter was dead.
Just like me for my own sister.
I was comforted by the fact that I couldn't remember Mae ever mentioning her parents.
Snow began falling... what?
