Maia's POV
My heart sank into my stomach as I watched the two comets that were my fused friends surge at the horde of monsters. But my heart descended into the abyss once they exploded.
They... they were dead.
Sobs clawed at my face and throat. I grabbed Eon and pulled her close to me. She sobbed terribly.
"I can't believe they did that..." I croaked.
"But we'll have to end it somehow."
Eon sniffed.
"Why's everyone dying? It's as if we couldn't go anywhere without someone close to us just..."
She sobbed again.
"I don't like this. And the worst part is that they were our only hope at defeating Chaot."
"You know I can hear your pathetic wailing, right?" Chaot hollered.
Ugh...
At least we agree on something this time, miss voice in my head.
I turned to face the woman, tightening my fists. Chaot smiled and approached the two of us.
"Eight down, two more to go. I'll shortly have their spirits, and I will have had enough power to utterly destroy you."
"Why don't you just use your powers to kill us?" Eon asked, her voice cracking.
"That would be a shame now, isn't it? If I am to be the god of this world, I'll do it with as much power as I could possibly muster. Seeing as your friends destroyed my entire horde of monsters, I have no other choice than to kill you myself."
She raised her palm at us.
"Don't resist it."
I smirked.
"Oh, alright. But I'll make you remember that I'm still a teenager. I'm in my rebellious phase."
In a flash, my wings sprung out from my back. I took off in the air, diving and twirling in the process.
"If you wanna kill me again, you're gonna have to CATCH ME!"
I forced my wings backward and was sent catapulting through the air.
I felt a sound barrier build up in front of my head. The air whooshed through my hair and brushed past my wings, which I desperately flapped to gain more altitude.
BOOM!!!!
Butterflies filled my stomach as I realized Chaot wouldn't let me go that easily.
The ground blurred into a green and yellow haze. Chaot inched closer, and I trembled.
I tilted my wings upward, allowing me to elevate higher into the air. I slowly gained more altitude, adrenaline rushing through my veins. I looked over my shoulder and saw a crimson blur getting closer and closer to me.
I tilted my wings in a manner that let me make an extremely sharp turn. I flapped my wings again and gained more speed, watching as the crimson blur zoomed past.
Suddenly there was a flash of crimson nearby. It went frighteningly close to me, making me jerk and turn to the side. Another streak of crimson flashed by. But this one brushed me with a light wind. I could have sworn that a few of the hairs on my head were singed.
I tilted my wings downward, letting myself zoom to the ground. Tears started forming in my eyes. I blinked them away, but I could barely see even then. Several more beams flashed by me. My heart almost went out of my chest as the ground drew nearer. I prepared my wings to push myself up into the air---
