It's 9:00 p.m. I was in the living room reading a Spider-Man comic, when I hear a faint scream coming from Maggie's room. Beth looks up from the drawing she's working on at the kitchen table.
"Was that Maggie?" She asks, scared.
"Yeah, I think so. Wait here." I say quickly.
I run to Maggie's room and open her door. I can hear her crying.
"Maggie? Baby, what's wrong?" I ask, walking quickly towards her. She's laying down on her side, shaking. I kneel by her bed, and stroke her cheek with my thumb.
"I'm sorry. I just had a nightmare. I kept seeing Shane, I thought it was real. I was so scared, Glenn." She says, crying.
I kiss her forehead and say, "It's ok. It's ok. He can't hurt you. I'm here with you. I'm always with you." I say.
Slowly, she stops crying.
"I don't think I can sleep." She says.
"Do you want me to get you a sleeping pill?" I ask.
"No. Can you sing me a song? Your voice calms me. Please?" She asks.
"Ok." I say. I sit down on the edge of the bed and hold her hand.
I sing the first song I think of. A song that reminds me of her.
