Before Maggie is discharged from the hospital, Beth and I go to her house to pack up her and Maggie's belongings. Luckily, Beth has her house key on her so we were able to go when their mom wasn't home.
"I left a note to my mom saying we left and to not even think about looking for us." Beth says, once we're finished packing.
"Good." I say
"Are you sure this is ok? Us moving in?" Beth asks, shyly.
"Me and my Dad wouldn't have it any other way, kiddo. Me and Maggie will be going off to college and looking for an apartment soon anyway." I say. Then I add, jokingly,"Then my dad will only have you to annoy and embarrass."
"And I only have 3 more years until I'm 18 and go to college." Beth says.
"See? Everything will work out. My dad loves you girls." I say.
"Yeah, me and Maggie love him, too. We consider him family."
"He has a way of doing that. Of bringing people in and making them feel loved." I say.

I knew that for as long as I can remember. I was just a little orphan, before he adopted me when I was 3. He likes fixing broken people and giving them a home.
