[I'm going to try 3rd person point of view on this chapter, tell me if you like it better this way!] ♡
______________________________________

Jaycee sat through all of home without a single call or text from Tyler. She knew Tyler was in therapy today, but she expected to get at least one call on how it was going. She didn't get anything. It wasn't until Jaycee was leaving the house and driving toward Josh and Tyler's house when her phone rang.

She didn't hesitate to pick it up, pulling over as she did so. "Hey."

"Is this Jaycee?" A young girls voice asked.

She pulled back her phone and looked at the caller ID. It said it was Tyler. She put the phone back to her ear. "Yes, this is Jaycee. Who is this?"

"This is Madison. I'm Tyler's sister. Uh, he won't talk to anyone. He's just laying in the backyard and I thought you'd be able to help."

"Are you sure he isn't just anxious from his first therapy treatment in years?" Jaycee asked, tapping her fingers nervously in the steering wheel.

Madison sighed. "I mean, he's anxious about it too but I think he's sad. He's been out there since noon staring at the sky. I would help, but I have to get going soon."

"I was just on my way up. I'm almost there, okay?" Jaycee promised, reaching over to start her car again.

"Okay. Thanks Jaycee." Madison said quietly.

"Anytime." Jaycee hung up and tossed her phone onto the passenger seat before putting her car into drive and heading her way to the house.

She didn't knock on the door when she got there. She just went straight to the backyard. Tyler was laying on a hammock, staring at the sky like Madison had said he had been all day. His eyes looked empty and his body was shaking.

"Are you cold?" Jaycee asked, sitting down on the grass next to the hammock.

Tyler's eyes drifted to her. They were still empty. "A little." He said quietly.

"Want me to cuddle you?" Jaycee asked, trying to make him smile.

He just nodded and looked back up at the sky. Jaycee sighed and climbed up next to him, letting Tyler cuddle up against her for warmth. He sighed softly.

"What do you think it will look like when the time comes?" Tyler whispered.

Jaycee looked down at Tyler, scrunching her eyebrows together. "What do you mean?"

"When I die." He whispered. "Do you think the sky will be grey or blue or dark or-"

"Pink." Jaycee said quietly. "You couldn't die under a normal sky. That's not fair. It would have to be under a sunset or something."

Tyler smiled at the sky a little. "And why would it have to be special?"

"You're special." Jaycee replied simply. She looked at Tyler again. "Ty, you've gotta stop telling yourself you can't beat this. The only way you can get through this is if you tell yourself you can."

Tyler looked down at the grass, tears forming in his dark eyes. "Jaycee, I'm scared. Like, really scared. Everything hurts and I'm scared and I'm tired."

Jaycee sighed and rubbed Tyler's back softly. "Want to know a secret?"

Tyler looked up instead of answering. A tear slid down his cheek, but he made no move to wipe it away. It fell onto Jaycee's shirt.

"I'm scared too." Jaycee whispered. "Do you know what's more powerful than fear though?"

"What?" Tyler sniffled.

"Peace." Jaycee replied, closing her eyes. "And at the end of this, no matter how this winds up, that's what we're gonna find. Peace."

Tyler nodded and closed his eyes. "That's a very strong thing to say."

Jaycee sighed and planted a small kiss on Tyler's head. "Ty-"

Tyler patted his girlfriends arm. "Shh. Do you feel that?"

Jaycee stopped and waited. "Feel what?" She asked.

"Peace." Tyler smiled and relaxed against Jaycee.

Jaycee could feel Tyler's soft breath against her neck. She smiled and rubbed his back again. She let her eyes slip shut. It was funny, she could feel it. She could feel the peace came to her whenever they were together. She didn't have to be afraid.

---

Jaycee wasn't sure how long they've been asleep when she heard Josh. "Hey Ty. You need to take these pills and then you can go back to sleep."

"Don't wanna." Tyler mumbled, burying his face against Jaycee's neck.

"Please? They're to help take the sadness away." Josh urged him.

Tyler sighed and the hammock shifted as he sat up. Jaycee blinked her eyes open as Tyler swallowed the pills with water provided by his best friend. Josh looked at Jaycee apologetically.

"I'm sorry to wake you guys. He hasn't slept much lately. I just wanted to make sure he didn't miss any of his pills. Just worried for him, y'know?" Josh said quietly.

"Hey, it's okay." Jaycee replied with a sympathetic smile. "It's good you woke him so he could take them."

Josh nodded and took the empty cup from Tyler. "You two can go back to sleep. I'm gonna go on a taco bell run. You guys want anything?" Josh asked sweetly.

"Don't wanna eat." Tyler mumbled, burying his face into Jaycee's neck once again.

"Ty, you gotta eat with those pills." Josh said sadly, rubbing Tyler's shoulder, getting ready to leave. "Oh, and Jay?"

"Yeah?" Jaycee mumbled, fighting to keep her eyes open long enough to be respectful toward Josh.

"Thanks for taking care of Ty when I can't. Mads was scared and so was I." He said softly.

"Anytime Josh. I was scared when I got the call too. And you know that I'm always here to help out. I love him a lot." Jaycee smiled warmly up at Josh, pulling Tyler closer to her.

Her eyes fell shut, and she let out a deep breath. Tyler squirmed a bit for a moment. "When did we get a blanket?" He mumbled.

Jaycee peeked an eye open to find that there was a lemon yellow blanket spread across the two of them. "Josh magic." She laughed quietly.

Tyler nodded and scooted closer. "Your sky would be blue, Jay."

"Why blue?" Jaycee asked, trying to hide her disappointment that Tyler thought her death would be so ordinary.

"Because blue is my favorite color and I'll be up there waiting for you." Tyler mumbled before his breathing evened out.

Jaycee kissed Tyler's forhead as he slept. "But I don't want to be here if you aren't." She whispered sadly.
