Book 1 in the Inside-series.
WINNER in the fanfiction genre of "Writing contest for all".
It's the first day of college and Kayla couldn't be more excited. She's been dreaming about going to a music academy her whole life, and now she's finally abou...
"So, here it is" Dave, the teacher tells me. We're standing in an actual recording studio where me and Trevor are going to practise on the duet. We're going to sing and rehearse the song here until next friday, when it's time to record it. The school has its own spotify account where all songs will be released.
"Wow, it's beautiful. I've never seen a recording studio before" I gasp while taking a look around.
We are standing in the spot where the producers and such work while the artist's singing, and I gesture towards the door that leads to the artist's space and Dave nods.

I open the door to discover a huge room with a drum set in the middle and lots of space to move on. It's really professional and shiny, and it almost makes me want to walk out before I cause a spot on the stainless floor or a smudge on the glass separating the two rooms.

"Go and find Trevor so you guys can try out the studio for a bit" Dave smiles.
"Yeah-" I'm just about to answer when the door opens and Crystal shows up in the doorway with a serious look on her face.
"Kayla, I need to talk to you. Right now"
"Sure, I was just heading out anyway" I smile and follow her outside. She shuts the door and turns towards me.
"Did you and Shane kiss?"
"Yeah, how did you know?" I answer her.
"Oh, I have my sources" she smirks and I place my hands on my hips.
Sources, she says? I wonder who... Only two people knew the night it happened. The first one is Shane, which is not likely. The second one is Coral, and she is... Most likely the one who told. Sigh.
"Either way, I'm not so sure about Shane. He's so unclear of what he wants and stuff like that" I say, and Crystal gives me a small smile.
"Well, the most important thing is that you just have to be careful with your feelings and all that. Shane has broken more hearts in those years I've known him, than I've ever seen in my life. Girls have thrown themselves at him and he's never allowed himself to feel something for any of them. When they eventually fell for him he just tossed them aside"
"Stop worrying about it, I'm not about to play his obnoxious little game. I know better than that" I assure her and myself as well.
"That's good" she smiles.
"Yeah, um, do you know where Trevor is at?"
"Come on" she pulls in my arm and I follow her out to a hallway and into one of the classrooms. A large group of people is sitting in there just hanging out and I search the crowd for Trevor.
I don't find him but instead, my eyes get locked with Shane's. We stare at each other for what feels like hours but likely only a few seconds, before Crystal pull my shirt.
"There he is" she says and points further away. Trevor is sitting by a table with some people I've never seen before. All the way over there I feel Shane's eyes burning into my skin but I ignore it.
When I reach the table, Crystal has disappeared from her place behind me where she was seconds ago. Everyone around the table is awkwardly staring at me so in panic I just bend down and whisper in Trevor's ear.
"Come with me"
He nods and smiles a little and more people in the room starts cheering and clapping their hands. I don't know why but it feels like everyone know something that I don't?
I try to ignore the whispering, clapping and most of all Shane's glaring as I walk out of the classroom with Trevor walking up close behind me. Should I ask him what that was about? I eventually decide not to, I need to focus on the duet now.
"So, where are we going?" he asks and I clear my throat.
"Dave wanted you to come to the studio so we can practise on the duet together"
"Oh, okay" he answers and I get the feeling he thought that we were going somewhere else. I shake it off as I open the door to the studio.
"There you are! Thought you'd gotten lost or something for a minute" Dave smiles as he's holding some papers in his hands. "Go to the microphones that I've prepared for you over there"
He points at two microphones while handing us the papers. The lyrics for Heaven/More than words is written on them, and Dave has mixed them together beautifully.
"So, lets just start with the first verse. Kayla, you're starting" Dave instruct us and I nod. He grabs a guitar and starts playing the chords.
Saying that I love you Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know
Dave stops playing and applauses, as well as Trevor. I almost blush a little, I'm certainly not used to anyone being so kind to me when I perform.
"That was perfect! Your voice is extraordinary, and I really don't say that often" he laughs and I thank him. "Anyway, Trevor, it's time for your part of the verse"
He nods and Dave picks up the guitar again and play some chords before Trevor starts singing.
How I love the way you move And the sparkle in your eyes There's a color deep inside them Like a blue suburban sky I don't need to be the king of the world As long as I'm the hero of this little girl
"Bravo! Your voices will make a great fit together in the chorus" Dave applauses again and I high-five with Trevor.
