The next morning I obviously still have to go to classical but I now feel a bit better since I know that I won't be here much longer. I'm really surprised by myself to be thinking that bad about classical music since that was what I always wanted. Or, so I thought at least...
"Hey, are you transferring to acoustic?" Cora asks me right when I walk inside the building. Wow, news really travel fast around here.
"Uhm, yeah, I am... I don't know, I can't help but feel like maybe going to the classical department was my mother's dream and not mine... I just feel like singing acoustic music is in my veins. I don't want to leave you but..."
"... I understand Kayla" she chuckles. "It's completely fine. You do what's best for you and no one else should be in your way"
I smile and pull her into a tight hug. I'm so glad I found such a great friend here, and I really can't picture her and Shane having the same genes... Like how? It can't be possible.
"Thanks" I smile and she nods.
"Anytime"
The classes for the day starts and we first have musical history in an hour before I really try my best in the violin class... And you could easily guess how it went. Anyways, before I know it, it's time for lunch.
"Do you want to sit with us?" Cora asks me and gestures to the classical students. I nod and she leads me to our, or soon to be their, table. But just as I've sat down, Crystal approaches me with a tray full of food in her hands.
"Kaylaaa! I just wanted to ask you if you wanna come to this party at Trevor's frat house tonight"
"Oh, I don't know... Parties aren't really my thing"
"Pleeeaaaseee! See it as a welcome-to-acoustic-party" she smiles and I consider it for a few seconds. Me and mother decided that I'm going home tomorrow morning to see her for the weekend, but I guess I can still make it in time... As long as I'm home at a decent hour.
"Fine. But you're driving us there" I say and she squeals.
"Great! The car drives off at nine" she smiles and walks off to the acoustics' table.
"Oh no! I forgot to ask her if I could bring you too" I sigh.
"No, it's okay" she laughs. "It would be wierd to go to the same party as my brother. Besides, freshmen aren't usually invited to the juniors' parties" she shrugs and I lift an eyebrow.
"Wait, Shane's gonna be there?" I ask, immediately thinking WTH in my head. Why did I just ask that?
"Uh, yeah? Why?" she asks, starting to smile more and more creepily. I put a hand over my mouth to somehow try to get the words I just said back in there.
"Oh I... I-It's not like that at all, I just... Wondered" Oh my god, could this get more AWKWARD.
"Okay Kayla, sure" she giggles and start eating with happy eyes.
"Stop it! I didn't mean what I said, now get over it"
A few hours later, the water runs down my warm body and embraces it like a hot blanket. A soft puff of air blows over the shower stall which gives me goosebumps, so I turn up the heat a bit more.
When I'm done showering I wrap the bathrobe around my body and grab my stuff. The air inside the shower room is warm and thick and it's a relief to walk outside and breathe in the fresh, cold air in the hallway.
I walk straight to mine and Crystal's room and fumble after the keys in the shower bag. Finally, I find the ones with a brick with the number '231' engraved on the metallic material and unlock the door.
Crystal is standing next to her bed with a few outfits laying on it, probably trying to pick one. She greets me when I enter the room and I search through my wardrobe to find an outfit for myself.
"Hey, wanna borrow something from me?" she smiles and points at her clothes. I smile and shake my head.
"No, thanks. I think I'll find something to wear from my stuff"
"Fine. Let me know if you change your mind"
"I will" I laugh and throw my clothes all around me to find the 'party clothes' in the bottom of a drawer. Eventually I find them and I decide to wear a simple black dress with long sleeves.
"Daaamn Kayla! Lookin' hot as fuq" Crystal smirks and starts looking through her wardrobe. After a few seconds she grabs a pair of black pumps and hands them to me.
"Oh... Noooo... I will NEVER be able to walk in those shoes!" I state and she giggles.
"Just try them on"
"Oh god" I say anxiously while putting the shoes on. They are actually very comfortable but they will be a challenge to walk in.
"Beautiful" she smiles and I look at myself in the mirror. It's actually not that bad. I decide to go with it and move on to makeup. I don't want to wear a lot of it so I just take a little mascara and Crystal helps me doing my eyebrows. When everything is finished, I review myself in the mirror once again. I certainly look like a different person, but in a good way, I would say.
We hurry down to the parking lot, jump into Crystal's car and drive off.
