"Hi"
"Hey"
The awkward silence that follows is almost unbearable, so to avoid talking to him I try to keep myself busy as much as possible. I pull out a few papers with the lyrics on and a water bottle. It's easier to sing when my throat isn't dry like the Sahara Desert.
"Are you guys ready to start? We have a schedule to maintain!" Dave shouts from the other room besides the studio.
"Yeah, lets just do it" Trevor sighs and I walk up beside him by the microphone since someone got the brilliant idea that we should record from the same mic.
"Okay, I've already recorded the music so when the first chords are done, you start singing as usual Kayla" Dave says while putting on headphones.
"Uh-huh" I nod and take a sip from the water bottle. The music starts and after a while, I start singing. Trevor soon jumps in as planned and we nail the whole song on the first try.
"That was great you guys!" Dave exclaims when the music stops playing. "Really professional"
"Are we done?" I ask and start gathering my stuff without even waiting for an answer. Trevor looks at me with a wierd look on his face that I can't really read, so I just look down at the floor and pack my stuff in the bag.
"Yeah, you can go now" he says. "Bye!"
"Bye" both me and Trevor say in choir. Our eyes meet awkwardly for a second before I sprint out of the studio.
"Kayla" Shane says with a small smile when I get out. He's leaning against a wall with his phone in his hands, which he puts down when he sees me. When he sees Trevor walking out behind me in a fast pase his smile drops immediately.
"Shane, hey" I sigh and look at Trevor as he walks out of the building. "I know, it's hard that I have to sing this song with him but I don't really have a choice anymore"
"You always have a choice" he mutters and starts walking slowly, and I follow him. But suddenly he stops abruptly. "Fuck"
"What?" I ask curiously.
"I forgot that I'm invited, no, forced to go to this party tonight. I'm not feeling it" he sighs, but I smile.
"You have to go! And take me with you" I squeal and he wrinkles his forehead.
"Hell no"
"Hell yeah" I laugh and start dancing ridiculously around him, grabbing his arms to make it look like he's dancing with me. A small smile reluctantly spreads across his lips and he tries to hide it without success.
"Okay, okay, just... Stop embarassing me Kay-Kay" he says, still smiling.
"Yes! Great" I exclaim with a winning gesture.
"You are so annoying" he snorts and starts walking again.
Later after school I'm standing in front of the mirror in my room, trying to dry my long hair with a towel. Chills travel down my spine by the cold air in the room, causing me to wrap the bathrobe tighter around my body.
"Kayla! I have a present for you" Shane suddenly shouts from outside my room.
"Really? Come in" I answer while continuing to hopelessly dry my hair.
A few steps are heard before the door opens and he walks in. He's holding a bag in his hands, and I fear what he's going to say next.
"Wear this for the party"
