"WHAT THE FUCK TREVOR?!" Shane shouts at him, and a few of the, for me, unknown guys have to hold him back. Trevor's face changes from scared to annoyed to mad, before actually saying anything.
"Mate, I didn't know that you and-"
"SHUT UP! YOU FUCKING KNEW, AND YOU DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT IT. MOTHERFUCKING SCUM" he continues shouting and I don't know what to do at all. There's so much anger in his voice and it almost makes me feel intimidated.
Suddenly he grabs Trevor by the collar of his shirt and pushes him hard against the wall. A few more people have now gathered around them trying to pull Shane off but he's too strong.
"Shane, I'm-"
"SHUT IT. I THOUGHT YOU WERE BETTER THAN THAT" he shouts only a few inches away from Trevor's face. He then lifts his hand as if he's going to punch him in the face. I hold my breath, but release it when his fist hits the wall beside Trevor's head. It does leave a mark, but it's better than leaving a mark in someone's face.
He then storms off leaving Trevor with a sad look on his face. A few adults rush to the scene and my eyes meet Trevor's before he walks off with them.
Later I'm sitting outside the principal's office, waiting for Shane to come out so we can go home. I must admit, it's kind of weird to face him already after something like this, but what options do I have? None.
When I've sat there for a good 15 minutes I decide to try and listen to what they're saying. At first it just sounds like mumbling under water, but suddenly the principal raises his voice and I can clearly hear what he's saying.
"I'm done with your fights! You can't keep going like this, Shane. You will get one last warning, next time I will call the police" he says and it takes a few seconds before Shane answers.
"Uh-huh" he answers and I roll my eyes even though I know he can't see me. The principal mumbles something unclear and a few chairs inside the office move around before the door opens.
Shane walks out alone and closes the door after himself. Our eyes meet but he still starts walking without a word coming out of his mouth. I follow him out on the parking lot.
"Shane..." I start but he interrupts me with a surprisingly calm voice.
"Don't. I know you didn't want any of that to happen. It's not your fault, all him" he says with a disgusted tone on the word 'him', while climbing into the car. I stay outside, really unsure if he really wants me to be in the car with him. I can't help but think that he's angry with me as well. Suddenly, the car window rolls down.
"Hello? Are you gonna walk home now too?"
"Oh... Sorry" I mumble and eventually climb into the car. He steers it out on the road with a concerned look on his face.
" 'Sorry'? You're apologizing for not jumping into a car?"
When he says it like that, I realize how dumb I must look. I smile a little while watching the landscape outside the window passing by in a really fast speed.
I'm not completely sure why I'm suddenly so careful with what I'm saying around him. Maybe I just don't want to make him mad again? Or maybe... I'm afraid of him? Afraid of the amount of power he had when he smashed his hand against the wall. I start wondering if he can read my mind when he suddenly speaks to me with that soft, kind voice again.
"Kayla, you don't have to be afraid of me. I would NEVER do you any harm" he says with a completely serious look on his face, causing me to smile a little again.
"It's not that I don't trust you, but... You might as well have smashed his face. Your best friend's face"
"Best friends don't kiss each other's girl"
That sentence turns me completely silent, and we just sit there in the car for some time, both just as quiet. 'Girl'? Just the thought of him calling me his girl causes butterflies to bounce around like crazy in my stomach.
Should I bring up the question about what kind of relationship we actually have? I consider it for a while but decide against it. He's been through enough for today, I don't want to feel like a whining burden.
After some time we finally reach the house. Stefan's standing in the hall when we walk inside with a phone in one hand and a furious look on his face.
"Shane Harte, why?!" he shouts and I instantly turn towards Shane who's eyes go all black once again, like they did before with Trevor. He takes a few steps against Stefan.
"What are you talking about?" he asks with a strain voice.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm so sick and tired of you fighting and getting into trouble all the time. I thought that period was over now. Obviously it's not" he says with an extremely serious voice. Even though he's nowhere near as agressive as Shane I can tell that they're father and son. Shane narrows his eyes and swallows as if trying to hold back his anger for a bit.
"You know nothing about me" he hisses.
"Next time, when the principal calls the police, I won't bail you out from prison"
They just stand there for a while, staring at each other before Shane walks past Stefan 'accidentally' bumping into him on the way. Stefan sighs and puts his hands on his forehead and I don't really know what to do. I eventually decide to follow Shane upstairs.
