Sana covered her mouth, trying not to make any noise. A hand slipped through the drapes and reached behind the bonsai located next to where she was standing, dug up something hidden under the small pile of dirt inside the pot then retreated from sight. Afterwards, the sound of footsteps were heard again but this time it got further instead. When Sana deemed it safe enough, she got out of her hiding place and observed the shadow at the corner. She saw how the female, judging by the figure shape reflected on the wall, took off something then walked in. Taking a deep breath, Sana decided to follow the mysterious person. However, when she turned around the corner to look at the place where the woman disappeared into, she unexpectedly came to face with a huge portrait instead of a door.
'Strange.' - She scanned her surroundings - 'There must be some sort of secret entrance...'
Her gaze fell on a little piece of wood on the nearby table. She examined carefully and noticed how it seemed to belong to the frame of the picture, given that they had the same pattern. Sana took a closer look and discovered a small gap on one part of the frame.
'A key hole?'
- "What are you doing?"
She almost let out a startled yelp at the sudden interruption. It was Jungkook, standing there with an unreadable expression.
- "I'm going to get something to drink."
He arched an eyebrow at her answer.
- "The dining room is not that way."
- "Well... I didn't know." - Sana feigned a sigh. - "I guess I got lost in this huge place."
Whether Jungkook was convinced or not, he masked it well. Nonetheless, he played along anyway.
- "I'll show you the way then."
She muttered a small 'thank you' then followed him. There was a weird atmosphere between them as neither wanted to initiate a conversation.
'Sana, say something.' - A small voice nagged in the back of her mind. - 'When will you ever have another chance...'
- "Stop it."
She glanced at the guy walking next to her, not quite understanding his command.
- "Biting your lips. It's distracting."
She instantly complied, mentally scolding herself for letting her old habit took over. She tended to do that whenever she was deep in thoughts.
- "Do you live with your family?"
His question caught her completely off-guard. Memories flashed before her eyes, making her heart clench painfully. Having noticed how Sana had frozen on her track, Jungkook stopped as well. He knew he touched a nerve when he saw the surge of emotion, which was normally hidden behind her calm facade, openly displayed on her face.
- "No."
- "What happened?"
Sana kept her head down and resumed walking, her luscious long hair curtained her profile from view.
- "They... passed away in an accident." - Her voice was so low that Jungkook almost didn't catch it. Yet he did, and somehow it made him feel a sense of empathy towards her.
- "We're not so different after all."
Sana abruptly turned her head to look at Jungkook, who remained poker-faced, in surprise.
Then why did Jimin told her GD was his father?
- "What do you mean?" - His eyes widened a fraction upon hearing her question. - "Your parents..."
- "Forget it." - He coldly cut her off.
An awkward silence lingered afterwards. Sana wanted to ask more but she knew she shouldn't. She pondered about what Jungkook said. It seemed like an unintentional slip-of-tongue on his side.
But if it were true, what was his real relation with GD?
- "We're here." - Jungkook's voice jolted Sana from her thoughts. She glanced up to see that they already arrived at their destination. The lass sat down and poured herself some water from the crystal pitcher on the table. It was such a shame that she wasn't able to extract more information.
- "By the way." - Jungkook casually revived their conversation. - "How do you manage your living expenses?"
- "I got several part-time jobs." - Speaking of which, maybe she'd be fired for her unannounced absence for the last few days. - "Student loans helped a lot too."
- "Ahh." - He observed Sana carefully. Judging by her delicate facial features, it's quite difficult to imagine how this girl went through such hardships. - "Stay here. You can be my maid."
'Well, that was an unexpected offer.'
- "I'll think about it."
Jungkook smirked.
- "It's settled then."
- "Excuse me? I didn't..."
- "You have no choice."
Sana fought back a scowl.
- "Don't tell me what to do. You don't own me."
- "Is that so?" - Jungkook's eyes glinted dangerously as he walked closer, until they were merely centimetres apart. - "Guess what. You're currently in my territory, and everything in my territory is mine."
They stared at each other, the tension was so thick that it could be cut with a knife.
- "I can leave when I want to."
- "You can't." - His fingers smoothly crept through her silky strands of hair. - "I didn't give those 3 that trade just to let you off that easy, so don't even think of sneaking away." - He lowered his lips to her ear. - "Because when I hunt you down, it won't be a pretty sight."
Sana felt a shiver ran through her spine. Despite Jungkook's seemingly teasing tone, she could tell he was dead serious about his threat.
- "I'm going back." - She attempted to push him off. Unfortunately, Jungkook prevented her escape by trapping her between his strong arms.
- "You're not going anywhere." - He leaned forward and whispered seductively. - "Not after we finish what we started this afternoon."
