- "SANA!!!!"

Jungkook immediately dropped the katana to catch Sana before she could hit the hard, cold floor. Right then, he couldn't care less about the weapons pointing at him nor the wounds all over his body. The only person who mattered was the petite girl in his embrace. Sana's breath came out labored and her face got paler as seconds ticked by. Blood was flowing out from the big wound on her shoulder, drenching both of their clothes.

- "Stupid!" - Jungkook snapped at her, but the trembling of his voice betrayed how he actual felt. - "Why did you do that?"
Sana didn't answer. Instead, she simply used the last remaining bits of her energy to take one last look at him. Confirming that she successfully blocked the fatal attack, the corner of Sana's lips curled up a weak smile before everything around her faded into oblivion.

——-

- "I'm sorry. We haven't been able to figure out their identities."

Jungkook frowned. The text he just received made his mood even worse.

- "Keep looking." - Jungkook typed a quick reply before tossing his phone onto the nearby couch and sat down. A frustrated sigh escaped his mouth. This was the first time they caught him off guard and it really pissed him off. Especially whenever Jungkook thought about that moment of powerlessness, when he saw that blade pierced through Sana's skin but couldn't do anything to stop it. Although Jungkook was supposedly used to this kind of lifestyle where fights and blood were common occurrences, he couldn't deny the panic he felt - which only turned into relief when the doctor finally assured him that she wasn't in any danger.

- "Hey." - A voice pulled Jungkook out of his thoughts. It was Namjoon. - "Jeongyeon told me to bring some stuffs for Sana. How's her injury?"

Jungkook glanced at the Namjoon for a split second before shifting his gaze back to Sana again, who had yet to wake up ever since.

- "Not too bad." - They were lucky that the royal guards arrived right after Sana fainted, or else the blood loss could have caused some serious damage. The thought made his fist clench so hard that his veins became clearly visible. - "Still, I don't understand why she'd do something so reckless and foolish."

Prior to that incident, Sana herself told him to stay away from her, didn't she? She seemed so determined to end things between them, yet...

- "Sana knew that hit wouldn't fatally wound her." - Namjoon could see that blade aiming for Jungkook's stomach so he knew if it wasn't for Sana, the one on the bed right then would be Jungkook, but in much worse condition.Yet, the fact that she didn't hesitate to save Jungkook without minding her own safety was indeed admirable. - "She genuinely seems like a kind person."

Jungkook was slightly taken aback by Namjoon's sudden statement. Usually, Namjoon was the type to take his time to analyze everything carefully before coming up with any conclusion. As such, it was really rare to hear him make such remark about someone he just met briefly.

As if having sensed Jungkook's untold question, Namjoon continued.

- "Actually, a few months ago, Taehyung and I had a bet together. We hired a person to act like an injured old man on the street as part of our little experiment to see if anyone would help him. Sana was the only one that helped him without even asking for any reward."

Jungkook sighed. That sounded like something Sana would do alright, what's with her naive bravery and tilted sense of justice.

- "It's such a stupid thing to do. That man could have been a scammer, or worse. If she keeps acting like that, people would take advantage of her."

- "Perhaps." - Namjoon shrugged. - "But the fact that she can have so much faith in people is quite fascinating."

Jungkook turned to gaze at the girl sleeping peacefully on his bed again...

Right, Sana was fascinating indeed. Now that Jungkook thought about it, Sana had been living on her own since such a young age. Surely that couldn't have been easy. Still, somehow she managed to keep a positive mindset and be nice to the people around her.

Unlike him.

In a sense, they were similar yet polar opposites at the same time. Jungkook thrived in the dark while Sana herself was the light. Maybe that was part of the reason why he was so intrigued by her.

He was attracted to her light.

He thirsted to make her his light.

Seeing that Jungkook was probably having many things on his mind, Namjoon decided to leave to give him some personal space.

- "Anyway, I'll get going now."

Namjoon headed towards the door. However, before he walked out, Namjoon slightly turned to Jungkook and left him a few meaningful parting words of advice.

- "You know, Sana is a nice girl. I hope you won't treat her like your other... toys."
