What they had?
Money and power. What they didn't have?
Love and happiness. It was the price they had to pay. What's good about being on top, if that meant you'd be trapped in a life filled with blood and darkness? Killed or be killed, hunt or be hunted... It was an endless circulation. If you asked the old Jungkook whether he was satisfied with his life, he'd say yes. But if you asked him whether he was happy... A punch in the face would be his reply.
Because, even though Jungkook wasn't happy, his pride prevented him from saying it out loud. If it wasn't for the recent events, he wouldn't have even know how affection and compassion felt like. He would dismiss kindness and trust as the fools' weakness. But it changed. His whole world changed after he had met Sana. If it wasn't for his encounter with her, he probably wouldn't have discovered the truth. He most likely would just follow the same path as GD, live a superficial, meaningless life and end up losing his humanity as time passed. Jungkook grew up seeing violence and immoral acts on daily basis, that's why it became normal to him. Before, he had never given any thought about the lives he might have intentionally or unintentionally destroyed. He had never thought about others' feelings. He had never thought that there was anything more important than money and power.
- "I don't want to be like my father." - Jungkook smiled. It was as if a heavy weight had been lifted off his heart. - "I quitted."
Mingyu stared at him. It was months after GD's funeral. Lots of things happened during that time. The current Jungkook seemed like a completely different person from the one Mingyu knew. He was... peaceful.
- "...What are you planning to do next?"
"Hmm... Let's see." - Jungkook pondered a bit before answering. - "I'll finish school, find a job that I wanna do, then marry my princess." - At the last part, Jungkook's gaze couldn't help but linger on the pretty waitress who was serving a nearby table. After the incident, Sana left his mansion and went back to her old life. Even though there were a lot of bad blood between Minatozaki, Jeon and Kwon, both Jungkook and Sana decided to put the past behind them and start anew.
- "That sounds so... normal."
- "Who said normal isn't a good thing?"
Mingyu chuckled. Yep, this Jungkook was different for sure. He changed so much that if Mingyu hadn't watched the whole thing unfolded with his own two eyes, he would most certainly be convinced that Jungkook had been replaced by an alien.
- "Good luck with that! You still have to make her your princess if you want all those plans to succeed, though." - Mingyu's grin widened when he thought about the other handsome males who had a soft spot for Sana. There was Sana's best friend since childhood, Jin. Not only was he handsome, but also dependable and cook well. Taehyung, who easily fit every requirement to be qualified as prince charming and was even dubbed "the most eligible bachelor of the year" several times in a row, also seemed to have some interest in Sana. Add those two and Jungkook into the mix, he could already imagine how interesting things could be already. And the fact that Mingyu had the front row seat to see all of this made it even better. - "From what I see, you might have some very tough competitions."
Jungkook calmly sipped on his coffee.
- "I'm confident."
- "Really? Why?"
- "Because she's worth fighting for." - Jungkook smirked. - "And you know me. I've never lost a fair fight."
