LaurenThis couldn't be happening. This could not be real. I couldn't be pregnant.
When the doctor asked me to come into a separate room with him and men brought in equipment, I knew it was true. Now, keeping a secret like this from Dinah was going to be the real challenge. I don't know how she had been stupid enough to not realize I was pregnant but she didn't, it probably wasn't something she was taught.
If I could escape with this child, and plan everything perfectly, I might have a fighting chance. Once we got back home, if I could ask my dad to come get me somehow, then maybe, just maybe I would be able to get away.
I didn't want this child, but I sure as hell wasn't going to put it in harms way by living with Dinah. I didn't care what happened to me, I just needed this innocent being to be safe.
"Well Mrs. Hansen, it seems that you are in fact, very pregnant and the pains are from it. You'll experience more pain like this with vomiting but don't worry, it's all normal. I'll be right back to let your wife know," the doctor told me and he started to turn and leave but I grabbed his wrist.
"Please, you can't. She can't know," I begged and the doctor smiled, his eyes wrinkling at the ends.
"I'm sorry." My face fell immediately as his smile disappeared. "I have to tell her everything or she'll have my head."
"This is an innocent child! Please! You can't tell her!" I started to become angry but the man shook his head and left the room, leaving me feeling sick to my stomach.
Then my eyes flickered over to the door that went outside and I moved quickly, pulling on my pants and shoes before leaving quietly. I had to escape, I had to get away. My feet started to carry me quickly and when I saw the wall, I ran faster.
The wall was probably eight feet tall but if I could jump and push up, I might be able to get up and get away. When I heard the sound of shots being fired, I stopped and looked back, all outside lights turning on. Oh god, I had to go, now!
Pushing myself to the brink, I pumped my arms before leaping off the ground and grabbing for the top of the wall. When I felt something impaling my hands, I screamed in pain and felt someone grab me from behind, pulling me down.
"No! Let me go! Let me go!" I screamed, tears streaming down my cheeks as I struggled against the person holding me back. I could see what was on top of the stone wall now, there were spikes. But they were clear, and I couldn't see them till blood was on them. Continuing to fight, I felt the body slowly pull me down to the ground in their arms, rocking back and forth with me.
"Stop, stop, calm down," the voice whispered but I still struggled, jabbing my elbows at anything I could find. "Lo, stop," the voice whispered, and when I heard the feminine tone, my eyes widened. That was not Dinah's voice. That was Normani's voice.
Immediately, I stopped, my muscles loosening as she held me. "What are you doing here?" I asked quietly, flinching at the sounds of more guns being shot.
"We came to get you. It's okay now, I need you to come with me, okay?" She turned me around and I looked into her brown eyes, nodding slowly before her eyes widened and she pushed me down, her arm raising with a gun and firing.
Instinctively, I covered my ears as my friend stood up, tugging at my arm. "Come on! We have to go now! She'll send more!" Nodding, I stood up and she helped me jog to hole in the stone wall. "Alright, go through." I did as I was told, Normani guiding me to a car.
"W-what about D-Dinah?" I could hear rounds and rounds being shot as men ran out of the house and were shot down, but I didn't see Dinah.
"The men are handling her. We have to get you out of here before they notice you're missing. Let's go." I was pulled into a van, Mani climbing in behind me as it screeched before riding down the road quickly.
"How did you find me?" I was so confused as to how she had came and saved me, my mind not yet catching up to what was happening.
"That's not important right now Lauren. We have to get you out of here."
"Mani, you have to tell me the truth! How did you find me?" She looked at me with innocent eyes as she bit her lip, the countryside flying by as we sped down the dirt road.
"There was a tracker..."
"A tracker?!" Now I felt myself becoming angry.
"I'm sorry Lauren. After you were kidnapped, we had one put in your arm."
"And how the hell did you do that?"
"We had an inside agent do it while you were sleeping." She sighed deeply, her eyes flickering to the outside before back to me. "But that's not important right now Lauren. What's important is getting you home, safely. We sent in enough men that they should be able to kill Dinah's men, and her."
I felt my heart drop to my stomach. They were going to kill Dinah? No, they couldn't do that. They couldn't!
"You're going to kill her?!" I clamped my mouth shut after I realized the tone I had taken on. I had sounded worried, angry even and I knew Normani understand that as she raised an eyebrow.
Dinah hurt me. I hated her for that, but I found myself hating the thought of her being gone more. I feared what would happen to me without her protection, but I also feared something else.
I knew the great lengths she could go to find me, and if she wasn't killed. She would be hot on our trail, killing everyone in her way before she found me.
"If we can take her alive we will but she'll be put through intense torturing before her death sentence. It's time for her to go Lauren. You are the future of the mob, Lauren." My heart was pounding so quickly I could practically hear it as I gulped, shaking my head no.
"Mani..."
"You are the heir to the throne Lauren. You will be Caporegime of the north and the south. You will be our leader."
Aye, sorry for the late updates lately. Thanks for all the support, this book and my other book Miss Hansen have been getting a lot of love lately so I appreciate it. This book still has a long ways to go, I'm not sure if I'm gonna end it soon and make a second book. Let me know what you all want because I'm open to suggestions.
