Dinah
The way she looked at me made me feel like my body was having an eternal fight within itself. Half of me was trying to push the bad out but I couldn't help it when it came to the way killing felt. She hated it, but I loved it and I loved her. I wasn't willing to choose between her or the demon inside me.
I felt like we were returning to old ways, how it was the first few months after our wedding. She stayed as far away from me as she could once I took her home, keeping our child with her at all times.
After the little mishap with Normani walking right through the gates, I increased to maximum security. No one was getting in or out of here alive.
"Mommy, when can I see Tia Camila?" I heard Dinah's voice come from our bedroom down the hallway. She sounded rather angry.
"I-I don't know sweetie. We can't go anywhere right now," Lauren answered.
"Why not? I wanna see Jojo and Aunt Ally and Tia Camila!" Standing up, I left my office, walking down the hallway to our bedroom. The door was cracked open a bit, enough for me to hear everything.
"Your momma just doesn't want us to go out."
"Why?!" This time Dinah yelled and I felt myself become tense. The child was starting to sound like me.
"I don't know, Dinah." Peeking through the door, I could see Lauren pulling our child into her arms. "Don't worry, I'll find a way for us to see her, okay? And we can see Abuelita Clara and Abuelito Mike. And Aunt Mani, Ally, and Jojo."
"Really?!" Dinah's eyes lit up brightly, her small arms wrapping around Lauren's neck tightly. "Yay! Yay! Yay!"
My heart fluttered at the mother, daughter moment. "Mhm," Lauren nodded, brushing Dinah's long thick hair out of her eyes.
"You're the best mommy ever!" Dinah yelled and Lauren laughed, falling back onto the bed with Dinah in her arms. She giggled as Lauren tickled her, the sounds angelic to my ears.
Pushing the door open, I smiled at them, ready to join the family moment but when Lauren saw me, she yelped and pulled Dinah to her chest, pushing herself backwards against the bed frame. What was wrong with her?
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so loud. I promise it'll never happen again. Please, I'm sorry," Lauren's eyes were scared and frantic as Dinah slipped out of her arms, standing up and jumping up and down.
"Mommy! Mommy!" Dinah yelled excitedly, jumping across the bed and off towards me, letting me catch her in my arms. I smiled and spun her around, our child giggling as I tossed her into the air and caught her again.
I looked at Lauren who still had a fearful look in her eyes. I was starting to get sick of the way she was looking at me, like I was going to hurt them or something. This was my family, I'd never do anything that had a chance of taking them away from our family.
"Can you watch a movie with us?! Mommy said we watch Cinderella!" Dinah exclaimed, pointing at Lauren. She bit her lip and stood up, crossing her arms as she watched us.
"Cinderella?" I asked, not really a fan of the movie. "How about Lion King?" Our daughter's eyes lit up and she nodded frantically.
"Yes! Yes! Yes! Can we have popcorn?!"
"Of course, my joy." I motioned for Lauren to follow, walking out of our bedroom and down the hallway to the stairs. Pressing one hand to my wife's lower back, I lead her down the stairs and into the living room before setting Dinah down on the couch.
"Put the movie in, I'll get the popcorn," I said before going into the kitchen and pulling the maker from a cabinet. I poured some oil onto the tray along with the kernels then popped the cover on. Waiting, the kernels started to pop and soon I was bringing a bowl of hot popcorn into the family room.
"Ooh! Sit by me! Sit by me!" My daughter exclaimed and I smiled, sitting down on the couch, letting her sit in my lap as Lauren stuck to her side of the couch.
"Hey, get over here," I said, opening one of my arms for Lauren to come sit next to me. Her eyes were wide with terror and she seemed to hesitate before scooting over and laying her head on my shoulder.
To my surprise, she hadn't questioned anything. She hadn't asked about Mariah at all and that was slightly relieving. I hated Normani but she was right. If Lauren found out that I had shot her in the shower, she would try to escape again. I couldn't have that happening.
Her body was tense as I wrapped my arm around her, the movie starting. The Lion King was one of my favorite movies and because of me, my daughter was also starting to adopt it as her favorite.
It was silent among us, except when the songs started, Dinah and I happily singing along with the movie as Lauren just sat there. Her muscles had started to relax, her body starting to curl into mine as her breath became softer. It wasn't long till she was asleep, her body turned in against mine as her face pressed into the crook of my neck.
I knew she couldn't resist my touch. Whether she wanted it or not, it would always make her feel better to be in my arms. Her body understood who she was supposed to be my wife, if only a short period of time before her mind would finally fall captive to my love too.
She had finally learned not to defy me, to listen and be good. Now I just had to make her fall in love with me again. My
