Lauren
When a man approached me in public today, asking me to come with him, I did not resist. I had thought it was one of Dinah's men but when I saw the federal government sticker on his car, I knew I was in trouble.
It had been five weeks since Dinah rescued me and she and her mood swings had only gotten worse. One moment she would be hugging me and being loving and the next she was on the verge of shooting me in bed. Mood swings, that's what I called them but I knew better. Dinah was fucking crazy. She was probably schizophrenic.
Luckily, she had allowed me to go out today and now I was regretting it because the man was taking me to a dark government vehicle. Unfortunately, I had ditched my agent Dinah sent with me a while ago and without him, I was becoming more nervous by the minute.
"Oh, I'm sorry sir. I forgot my phone in the restaurant. Do you mind if I go get it?" I asked but I was already walking away, back towards a small cafe. I didn't have a phone, Dinah wouldn't allow it and I knew why. It was so the government couldn't track her or me or anyone involved in the business. It was just for safety.
However, if I had one, I could at least call her but now I was on my own."Ma'am! Please come back here! This is important!" He yelled as his pace quickened, making me walk even quicker. I knew where the car was, and I knew the way home. If I could get there I would be safe.
When he started to jog to catch up, I took off running, my feet carrying me down the sidewalk quickly. My eyes were searching frantically for the agent and when I saw him at the end of the street, I ran faster than I had ever.
"John!" I shouted and he looked at me, his eyes widening as he spoke into his mic before pointing to the car.
"Go! Now!" He took his gun out and aimed at the federal agent, pulling the trigger multiple times as I got in the car. Watching in fear, the agent shot John, making my eyes widen as he started coming closer. Acting quickly, I slid into the driver's seat and pressed the on button, making sure to lock the doors as he raised his gun at my window.
She better have bulletproof windows on these, I thought as I pulled away, merging into traffic quickly without hitting any of the frightened citizens. I heard the glass being shot from the back but nothing shattered, luckily.
Looking in my rear view window, I saw the blood seeping through his shirt and I knew he had been shot. Hopefully that would buy me some time.
Making my way downtown as quickly as I could, I froze when I saw that the road was blocked off by FBI and their cars which had backed up the cars. Oh my god, they were gonna take me. Starting to panic, my hands pressed random buttons on the screen in front of me. There had to be some way to contact Dinah.
Looking frantically, when I saw the contacts application I tapped it and scrolled down, shivering in fear as the officers started talking to each driver in front of me, making their ways back.
Once I saw Dinah's name, I pressed on it and unbuckled, knowing what I would have to do.
"Hello? Agent 3H are you-"
"Dinah it's me!" I practically yelled, tears forming as the agents moved to the row of cars that were three ahead of me.
"Lauren?! Where are you?! What's wrong?!"
"John got shot and the FBI is looking for me and they're really close and I don't know what to do. Dinah they gonna take me. I don't want them to take me." Looking in the back mirror, my eyes widened at the sight of the agent who had killed John, also asking drivers questions from behind.
"It's okay, calm down. Here's what I need you to do. On Washington Avenue, you need to run two blocks then turn on Lincoln Street. Do not stop running till you see a little shop that says Demi's Bridal Shop. Go there. Can you do that for me?"
"Y-Yeah."
"It's okay baby. Just hang in there, I'll be there soon. Go, now. I need you to go now Lauren!"
"Okay, I will." I cried as I quietly opened the side door, not bothering to shut it so it wouldn't make a sound. I slipped out and started running as fast as I could. The agents hopefully not seeing me since I disappeared out the passenger side.
My legs were burning and when I saw Demi's Bridal Shop, I pushed myself to run faster than I ever had. Stopping in front of the door, I jiggled the handle but it wouldn't open. My eyes scanned around and when I saw the closed sign, my heart started to beat quicker than it already was. My eyes were wide with terror and I looked around frantically, my eyes landing on a tiny restaurant that seemed to be Cuban food across the street.
Making my decision quick, I sped through the on going traffic and opened the door even though it said closed too. Luckily, it had been unlocked. Once I shut the door, I tried to calm myself as I sniffled, trying not to cry as I slid down against the door.
I hated this life. I hated Dinah. I hated everything. She put me in danger. The government was always looking for her and now they're looking for me too.
Crying quietly, I immediately stopped at the sound of footsteps coming from the back along with the sound of a door closing. Oh my god, someone was here.
Acting on my instincts, I stood up, hearing the wailing of sirens outside. "Do it to survive," I whispered to myself as I went into the dimly lit kitchen, grabbing a knife. I went into a little hallway, getting ready to strike before the door swung open and I saw who it was.
My knife dropped from my hands and my eyes widened, the person mirroring my actions. She stared at me in shock and I felt the hot tears starting again.
"Lauren?" She asked hesitantly, her eyes flickering to the knife on the floor.
"Mami?" I stared at the woman, my voice quiet like a child's as she nodded softly, tears forming in her eyes.
"Yes, mija. It's me," she spoke and started crying as she held out her hands, immediately embracing me as I started to cry too. I couldn't believe this. My mother was alive.
Thanks for all the love guys. I love when you comment, it makes me so happy. So, what do you think? Mama Jauregui gonna whoop some ass or what?
