Dinah
My shoulders were tense as I sat in the back of a car, Lauren's hand on my thigh. We were going to pay a visit to Doritol's mob to call on a truce because I couldn't afford any other gangs to decide to rise up against me.
I couldn't remember very well but I knew he took Lauren and had messed with my father other the years. I wouldn't say his gang was as powerful as my own but he had connections and that frightened me.
To be honest, I had never taken into account how powerful other mobs were because my papa had taught me that we were the best and I accepted that without second thought.
But now that I had experienced what they could do, I was more aware than ever. I needed to have everyone on my side if I was going to be crowned Caporegime tomorrow and lead everyone. I wanted peace, not war.
Lauren had her head against my shoulder, my beautiful wife sleeping quietly as I had my arm wrapped around her protectively. She had insisted on coming because she was worried about me handling everything on my own. To be honest, I was thankful for her to be here with me
We would be meeting in a park on the outside of town, no weapons, just words, that would hopefully join our mobs under my power. I needed everyone to be safe and okay.
My white dress shirt was wrinkled from Lauren leaning against me, her small hands knotted in the material as I watched her. Her eyebrows were furrowed as she slept quietly, the car humming softly as we drove through the country side.
My eyes were drawn to the outside, the fields passing by in a blur before we reached the park. There was only one other car in the lot that contained one of Doritol's cars but we made sure to park further away from it.
I was surprised, I thought he would have brought more men because I certainly did. As we parked, Lauren shifted in my hold, waking up as the sudden halt of the car.
"Are we here?" She mumbled sleepily and I nodded, slowly turning around and caressing her cheeks.
"Hey, I want you to be careful, okay? This is the man who kidnapped you and if you want to stay here with the men or they can take you hom-"
"I'm okay Dinah. I want to be here, for you. We're married, this is what wives do," she cut me off, leaving me to only nod and frown as I stared into her eyes.
"I just, I never want you to be taken away again. I don't know how I could handle that again."
"You remember that?" She asked and I looked down.
"Yeah, the memories have been returning. I can remember things from my perspective, not just what you told me yesterday. I'm so sorry Lauren."
I felt her arms hook around my neck as she hugged me tightly, ignoring the knock on the window. "I don't know what I would do with out you either. So let's go out there and face this together. Okay?" She whispered and I smiled, muttering an okay.
Once we got outside the car, I was in full aware mode as Lauren stayed at my side, her arm wrapped around my own as we walked to the center of the park. I could see Austin sitting on a bench, two of his men behind him as he waited.
"Men, separate and go into watch formation. Move with target," I spoke into my mic, watching as the men separated and made a diamond around us.
Lauren was practically shaking as we gained closer and closer to Austin, a smirk on the man's face. Once we reached him, he stood up and we shook hands except with Lauren because she was standing behind me.
"Lauren, I'm sorry about the past. Hopefully we can move forward," Austin spoke, offering a hand to my wife but she only watched him, not daring to touch him.
"Yes, so let's talk about the truce Austin."
Thirty minutes later, we had laid out a plan on how to manage his mob as a separate yet connected part of the mafia regime. However, Austin seemed agitated about something and I could feel him becoming more tense the further we got into the plan.
All of my men were still moving around, watching over Lauren and I protectively as Austin's men stayed glued to their positions behind the bench.
"Dinah, walk with me please," Austin said and I bit my lip, looking over to Lauren who had a panicked expression.
"It's okay, just stay here. I'll be right back," I kissed her cheek before gesturing to the path.
Austin and I walked away from Lauren, our footsteps silent as we gave a moment for us to become distanced from others.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" I asked, trying to keep myself from whipping around to watch Lauren.
"Well, I just wante-"
Suddenly, there was an ear deafening sound of an explosion, throwing me off my feet and backwards. A shuddering pain echoed through my body as I landed on the ground, my back making a terrible cracking sound.
"Lauren!" I shouted, trying to rid of the ringing in my ears as I squeezed my eyes shut. There were three more sounds of explosions and when I heard Lauren scream, I urged myself to stand up even though the pain was incredibly terrible.
"Lauren!" I screamed and looked around through the dust to see many of my men on the ground, all of them with fatal wounds to the heads. Once my eyes caught sight of the middle of the park my eyes widened.
I coughed as dust filled the air, fires all around the park. Starting to run, my focus was set on Lauren who was curled into a ball in the center of the park.
"Dinah!" I heard her scream and when I got closer, my vision was still blurry but I could make out Austin's men, unharmed and okay.
"Lauren!" I shouted again when I saw one pull a gun from inside his jacket. No, no, no.
I ran faster and when I heard the deafening sound of a gun being fired and a scream from Lauren, another bomb went off and I was thrown back again, into unconsciousness.
I couldn't believe this had happened. He had lied. He had hurt her, again.
Fighting hard, I tried to wake up but I couldn't and suddenly, I was being drowned in the silence and darkness.
