Three Weeks Later
Aria's Pov
"This is long overdue." Hanna says as she flops down next to me on Emily's couch "We have our girls night what, like every two months now? We're getting off track."
"I know, I really miss you guys!" Spencer frowns "I look so forward to these sleepovers."
"Yeah, they're just like old times." Emily smiles.
"Except now we can drink legally, and we have a bigger selection than just the cheap beer no one will notice is missing from the back of the fridge." I add.
"Yeah, that too." Emily laughs.
"So what'll it be tonight?" Hanna asks "Drinks and movies, maybe some board games? Actually first, is there anything going on that needs to be discussed, any gossip that would only be shared between best friends?"
"Nothing too exciting." I shrug "Unless you wanna hear about my kids or my husband."
"Well always, duh." Hanna scoffs "How are they?"
"They're great." I smile "Thankfully, the whole Brazil thing seems to be passing pretty well, other than a few nightmares here and there."
"Yours or Piper's?" Emily chuckles.
"Bit of both." I admit "But more Piper. She wakes up screaming from nightmares of falling, she's terrified of heights now."
"Poor girl." Spencer sighs.
"I know." I reply "I think I told Hanna this, but a few weeks ago at the park Piper got so scared from climbing up the playground. And it wasn't like she just didn't want to go up, she climbed it first then realized how much it scared her once she was at the top."
"Sweet girl didn't deserve what V did to her." Hanna shakes her head.
"Has anyone heard from him since then?" Emily asks.
"Nope." Hanna and I say in unison, Spencer shaking her head. A silence begins to grow over us, which I have every intention to break. Right now, I don't want to dwell on V.
"So, what else is going on in everyone's lives?" I ask.
"Nothing much, at least not from the usual." Hanna shrugs.
"Same here." Emily agrees "A whole lotta nothing."
"What about you Spence?" I ask once I realize she's stayed quiet. Spencer just stares down at her lap, fiddling with her fingers before bursting into tears.
"What's wrong?!" I gasp, putting my arms around her anyway. She continues to sob uncontrollably, her entire body trembling. Even though I'm a little confused, I don't rush her answer, and instead comfort her the best I can. After about a minute or so, Spencer replies in one of the shakiest voices I've ever heard her use.
"I-I think I need a p-pregnancy test."
In an attempt not to show my jaw dropping, I quickly fumble to fill my mouth with empathetic words instead.
"Okay, we'll go get you some." I say soothingly "It's okay Spence, don't cry. When was your last period?"
"I-I don't know, I think I was supposed to get it weeks ago." She answers shakily "I haven't thought about it much until now, b-but I just know that I'm really late. Like really late, maybe more than a month, I-I don't know."
"It's okay," Hanna reassures her "Don't think about it right now, we're going to get you a pregnancy test then based on that you can worry."
