Two Weeks Later
Aria's Pov"Come on Piper!" Isla shouts, climbing the stairs as fast as she can on her five-year-old legs "You gotta hide with me!"
Piper just gives her a look of disbelief, staying put on the couch "But I'm not playing hide and seek anymore Isla, I'm bored of it now."
"But I can't hide alone," She retorts "I don't know how."
"You can do it, just pick somewhere we've already hidden." My daughter half-pleads.
"But Piper," Isla whines "I want you to come."
"Hey La-la, she doesn't want to play anymore." Caleb intervenes "You're gonna have to either hide by yourself or go do something else." We've been at the cabin for a little over two weeks now, and everyone's had their fair-share of hide and seek.
Isla pouts at her Dad for a drawn-out moment before answering "Fine."
"The attitude on this kid," Caleb jokingly rolls his eyes as he turns to face me.
"Get ready for those teenage years." I tease.
"There's not enough time in the world to prepare." He replies.
"Daddy!" Isla dramatically sighs, running over and climbing into his lap "I'm not gonna be a teenager for ever and ever, but when I am I'm gonna have a boyfriend."
"That's enough of that," Caleb widens his eyes, holding his daughter close to him "You're going to stay little for a very long time and even when you're not anymore you should wait as long as possible before getting a boyfriend."
"No way, I'm gonna get one when I'm six." She furrows her eyebrows.
"Do you have one in mind?" I ask her.
She nods "Baylor in my class. He's gonna be my boyfriend when I turn six."
"Just what a Dad loves to hear," Caleb sighs.
"You know what a Dad also loves to hear?" Ezra says as he walks into the living room "He loves to hear that his oldest daughter by the name of Piper is going to go to the dining room and start setting the table for dinner."
"Okay but I need a helper." Piper smiles.
"Madden!" Caleb shouts "Can you come downstairs for a minute?"
"Yeah!" He calls back.
"There's your helper." Caleb smirks.
"Thanks," Piper giggles.
By the time we all sit down for dinner, I'm so hungry that I'm almost positive I could eat half the food that's here. So I can't help but feel a little impatient as Spencer starts talking, although I do my best to suppress my hunger and listen intently.
"Before we eat I just wanna say a few things," She starts "I know we've been here a couple weeks now, and the cabin fever's growing very apparent, but I just wanted to acknowledge what positive spirits everyone's managed to stay in despite it all. And I know that as time passes things have been looking less promising, but we're gonna get through this, we always do. And also, there's not another group of people I'd wanna go through this with, either."
"To all of us," Ezra raises his water glass "For all we've been through and all we're still going to go through. The circumstances of why we're here may not be good, but a silver lining is that we're getting to spend a lot of time together."
"May we always be able to focus on the positives," Toby nods "We've all done a great job so far."
After dinner we decide on having a movie night—which usually ends up happening most nights by default—although it feels nice to declare it. Agreeing on what to watch is never easy, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
