Two Days Later
Aria's Pov"My boobs hurt so bad," I huff, leaning back stiffly on the hospital bed "It feels like they might explode."
"Really? The babies pretty much just ate." Ezra chuckles, glancing at Bodhi and Briar.
"I never thought I could produce too much milk with twins." I smile slightly, feeling a little proud of myself.
"Better than not enough." He shrugs.
"That is true," I nod.
Since giving birth two days ago, I've been in the hospital along with the babies. Luckily everything was okay with both me and them after our unplanned homebirth, so we're getting released today. Ezra and I have decided that we're going to go home, not to the lake house. Not only is pretty much all our stuff for the twins there, but we also want to settle into our new life with them in our own space. New life, of course, is the wrong way to describe it, because without Piper it isn't our life at all. The police haven't had any substantial leads, it's almost as if Piper quite literally vanished into thin air.
"Do you have everything pretty much ready to go?" Ezra snaps me from my thoughts "Or you know, at least an idea of the things that still need to be done so I can do it for you?"
"You're a good husband." I smile, patting the bed beside me. He sits down, and I lean my head on his shoulder. I don't say anything for a moment, taking in the silence while I can. The twins have proved to be pretty good sleepers so far, although the times they do wake up have been opposite of one another. Briar will wake up to eat and not long after I get her back to sleep Bodhi will be up, which apparently isn't uncommon and can of course be fixed with a little sleep training. It's only been two nights since their birth and already last night seemed better than the first, so I'm not too fussed about it.
A screechy newborn cry comes from the twins' shared cot, Ezra standing up to tend to our crying daughter. I watch as he lifts her gently into his arms, then walks slowly back over to the bed and sits down. A wave of giddiness washes over me at the sight of Ezra with our newborn; I didn't realize how much I missed this stage.
"What's wrong Briar?" Ezra coos "What're you upset about?" She continues to wail as he softly bounces her, her skin flustering.
"She shouldn't be hungry," I say.
"And she doesn't need a diaper change." He continues "I guess she's just fussy."
"Maybe she just wants her Mama," I half-joke. Still, Ezra hands Briar to me, and sure enough she stops crying not long after.
"Well would you look at that," Ezra raises his eyebrows "Another Mommy's girl."
"Hey, Piper's a total Daddy's girl." I smile sadly at the mention of my oldest daughter, almost for a moment having forgot that her whereabouts are unknown. Right now Stella's at Emily's, and if I'm distracted I almost for a moment think that Piper is too.
"I really do believe that V hasn't hurt Piper in any way." Ezra says "Just think, when he took her when she was little, he never hurt her. He could've at any given point but he didn't. Piper hardly had any bad things to say about V, so he wasn't even being mean to her. Why would he act differently now?"
"That's true," I reply "It's a reassuring thought at the very least."
"She'll be home soon," He continues the positivity "I know she will." I don't get a chance to reply before Bodhi starts wailing, Ezra standing up to get him.
"Hey Bodhi boy, you better not just want your Mama too." He jokes, kissing his sons forehead. Bodhi stops crying a few seconds later, much to Ezra's delight.
