Part 37

I'll talk to Credence.
Just take care of yourself Casey.

-Newt-

Casey lets out a small sigh before silently thanks Newt for his kindness. Since the news about the engagement, Casey hasn't come to Newt's house. She's so afraid to meet Credence. She doesn't know what would Credence do. She doesn't know what would she do. Can she put a stop to their relationship although they haven't even start it. Can she go through the engagement without a slight regret?

Casey inhales deeply before remembering his father's words. She shall be engaged to Terry in another three weeks.

To think about it, Terry is a kind boy. He is Casey's first friend. But what can Casey do when her heart yearns for another boy, a vulnerable boy whom Casey is so fond of.

Casey is in daze when suddenly she heard footsteps coming towards her, she quickly turns, just to see Terry in a rather panic mode. Casey senses his anxiety and curiosity, so Casey shifted her position, from leaning towards the window sill in the library, to now facing Terry who is marching towards her.

"Casey... I've been thinking... Why not we just continue with the engagement?"

A shiver runs down Casey's spine together with a slight dissapointment. 

"What are you trying to say Tarius?"

Casey replied while shooting an intense glare towards Terry.

"I just... When I think about it... Your family and mine refuse to call off the engagement. So why don't we just do it..."

Casey bits her lower lips so hard that it might bleed. She feels kind of betrayed by Terry's words. They talk about this before, so why suddenly Terry changes his mind?

"I know I'm selfish Casey... I know I shouldn't take this situation for granted but... But why can't you accept me?"

Terry blurted out. Frankly, Terry himself knows he shouldn't force Casey after what they have discussed before but the question keeps on evading his mind as long as he hasn't got the answer.

'Why can't you accept me Casey? '

Casey could clearly listen to the questions being repeated in Terry's heart. To be honest, Casey knows the answer. But how can she say it without hurting Terry's feelings?

"You love the boy don't you? Credence I mean..."

Casey gulps. Now she feels as if Terry could read her mind. She blinks her eyes awkwardly, trying to find any possible answer to give to Terry but again, Terry speaks before Casey could open her mouth.

"Please don't lie to me Casey... I deserve to know the truth..."

"I do..."

Terry swallows hard at Casey's sudden abruptness. He expected the answer but to listen to it from Casey's own mouth, it hurts so much.

Casey that detects Terry's feeling slowly puts her right hand on Terry's arm, as a way to console him.

"You know you can't be with him don't you? Not only because of me... But your family..."

"I know Tarius..."

Casey replied half-heartedly, she could feel her eyes sting from tears that almost escaped.

"What are you going to do then Casey?"

Casey simply shrugs before looking away, trying to hide her tears. Her hand is still firm on Terry's arm before she pulls away, looking towards outside of the window, drowning in her own emotion.
