"So, you hang out with Calum all the time now and decide not to tell me?" A familiar voice said behind me.
"Hello to you too, Iris." I said, pulling my bag out of my locker.
"You know I like him, I want the details man."
"I know, i'm sorry," I said, before Luke and Calum walked up behind Iris. "Hey guys." Iris spun around, and I could tell she got nervous.
"Hi Skylar," Calum said before looking at Iris. "Hey Iris."
Iris was probably freaking out on the inside, "Hi Calum!" She smiled widely to him. "I, uhm, I have to go. Bye guys!" She waved before walking away quickly.
I held back a laugh. "So we're going to Luke's house tonight?"
Calum sighed. "I can't, I have a dentist appointment." I slumped my shoulders, knowing I would have to go home and be bored all evening.
"Oh," I said quietly. "Well now what?"
Luke was typing on his phone before he looked up. "You can still come over, I guess."
A night alone with Luke, without Calum. What would that be like? I shrugged. "Sure, that'd be fine." It was better than sitting at home alone.
~~~~~
"Alright, the house is kind of messy right now, mostly because I'm here alone for the time being." Luke said as he fumbled through his keys.
"Why are you alone?" I said.
"My parents are in Seattle, there was some family emergency. They don't know when they'll be home. It was my mom's sister and they're close and stuff." he said as he unlocked the door.
We stepped inside, Luke sliding his shoes off. I took the time to look around. There were two arched doorways, one leading to the living room, the other leading to a dining room. The stairs were right in front of me. There were family pictures on the wall leading up the stairs.
"Are you hungry or something?" Luke asked quietly.
"Starved, actually." I said, slipping my shoes off.
We walked to the kitchen, which was all black and white. He opened the fridge, biting his lip next to his lip ring.
"We could make chicken nuggets," He shrugged, leaning down to grab them. "They're dinosaur shaped."
"Are they your little brother's or something?" I said with a laugh.
Luke stopped, turning towards me. "No, they're mine and I love them."
I held back a laugh as he searched around for a tray. I went over to the fridge and look at the assorted pictures and drawings that were on it.
"Dude, you look ridiculous in this." I laughed, holding a picture of Luke in my hand. He was about thirteen, with his leg stuck in a baby swing, while Calum and another guy stood with their thumbs up.
"Don't look at that shameful picture." He scoffed.
"Puberty hit you with a brick." I said, looking back and forth between him and the picture.
"If that's your way of calling me hot, thanks." He said with a small smile.
"I was not." I said, elbowing him. He was actually very attractive, but I wasn't about to tell him that.
"I don't even have a little brother." Luke scoffed, organising the nuggets into perfect lines.
"Aw, little Lukey Pukey is the baby of the family." I cooed at him.
"Aren't you?" He retorted.
"Touché."
We went out to the living room. Luke plopped down on the couch, but I noticed a couple of random boxes.
"What's in those?" I pointed.
"Oh, some old records. Nothing interesting."
"Nothing interesting? Records are so interesting." I scoffed, sitting in front of a box and looking through. I heard the couch squeak and suddenly Luke was sitting beside me, looking through the other box.
I watched him flick through the records, watching his arm muscles. But that's when I noticed the little pink lines.
"Luke?" I said quietly, my voice too shocked to be loud.
"Yeah?" He said, looking over to me with a confused look.
"Y-Your arm... you-"
"Why are you looking at my arm?" He said, pulling his sleeve down.
"I just glanced, b-but-" I stammered.
"But nothing. It's not anything for you to worry about." He said with a hint of annoyance.
"Why would you-"
"Skylar, stop!" He said loudly. "It's none of your fucking business!"
I leaned back, fighting the tears that were in my eyes. I hated people yelling at me. I stood up quickly, making my way to the front door.
This is so pathetic of me, leaving when he hardly raised his voice. I began slipping my shoes on, a couple of tears falling.
"Skylar, no," Luke was now near me, lightly grabbing my arm. He spun me around, his face now soft. "Please don't leave me. Everyone always leaves me. J-Just stay."
His eyes were full of tears. I bit my lip, pulling him into a hug, which he hesitantly put his arms around me.
"I won't leave." I whispered, mostly to myself, to promise myself to help him.
"Thank you." He whispered back.
((I like this a lot better than how it originally happened. still a little fast, but better.))
