(( THIS STORY JUST HIT 9K READS YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST ILY ))
At first, I was shocked and scared. I never saw this side of Luke and I never thought I would. I would get over it, though, since it was just self defense, I presume.
I later got home and went straight to my room. Honestly, I was tired and I wanted to take my mind off of this all.
I slept pretty well, until I got a call at two in the morning from Calum.
"Skylar, you need to come to the hospital." His voice was shaky.
"Wait, what?" I said, sitting up from my bed.
"It's Luke." My heart dropped, as well as my phone. I quickly grabbed a sweat shirt and some shorts, stumbling to Hannah's door.
"Skylar, do you even know what time it is?" She snapped.
"We have to go to the hospital." I said breathlessly.
"Why?"
"Luke." I said quickly. She nodded slowly, coming out and slipping her shoes on and grabbing her keys.
"Do you care to explain?" She said as we drove.
I stopped, thinking of any possibility.
"Skylar?" She said again.
I lost it, telling her everything from the beginning. Luke's cuts, the first hospital visit, our troubles with Calum, losing my virginity, down to the fight he had with Cory.
Hannah stayed silent, shocked. Finally she whispered, "wow."
We got to the hospital, quickly making our way to the ER. There we found Calum. I saw Grace sitting quietly in a chair. She waved to me .
"Calum, what happened?" I said quickly.
"He-He did it again." He said, shaking his head.
"What do you mean?" I said, feeling tears in my eyes.
"Skylar?" A woman with blonde hair came up to me. "You're Skylar?"
"Yes," I said, looking at her. She seemed familiar. She resembled Luke a bit, which meant she was probably his mom.
"I'm sorry we had to meet this way. I'm Liz." She said. There were tears on her cheeks.
"It's entirely fine, it's nice to meet you." I said smiling slightly.
"Luke... He..." Her voice cracked. "He has something for you, in the room."
"Oh, okay." I followed her down the hall to the room. She opened the door, where three men were standing.
"Boys, come on," Liz said quietly. They all turned from Luke. One was his father, the others I suspected were his brothers. They all walked past me, but his father stopped.
"Here." He handed me an envelope with a small smile, following Liz and the boys down the hall.
I looked at the envelope, my name written on it in Luke's nice hand writing.
I walked over to a chair next to Luke's bed, where he laid silently. The machines beeped slowly.
"Luke," I whispered, grabbing his hand. "Baby, please." I choked, feeling tears fall from my eyes.
I looked at him, his body was pale. He had bandages wrapped on his arms. His blonde hair was messy on his forehead, his breathing slow.
I began to open the envelope, papers inside. I took a breath before reading.
Skylar,
I know I said I wouldn't do anything like this. This is really hard to write, to say everything I never said. I regret never making our relationship official. I really do love you, Skylar, you're my everything. You were what I was holding on to. I wish I was strong enough and I wish I was good enough for you. I'm so sorry, I'm so, so sorry. Please, just carry on. Don't be unhappy and miserable like me. Live your life, break some rules, fall in love. You're a beautiful, kind hearted girl. It will be so easy for you to find someone better than I was.
I couldn't take it anymore, babe. It was all too much. In a few hours, my family will be home. They'll find me, and I'll be gone.
I love you, Skylar Louise Santiago. And please, don't you forget about me.
Love, Luke Robert Hemmings.
I folded the note up, wiping the tears from my cheeks. The machines beeped on, slower and slower.
"No, Luke, please don't do this." I sobbed out, grabbing his hand and laying my head down.
