I was in an unknown place. It was all white.
"Hello?" I called out. I looked around, have I finally made it? Did I escape earth?
"Luke." A voice whispered, echoing in my ears.
"Who's there?" I said, turning my head around.
"It's me." I turned completely to see Michael.
"Michael, where am I? Am I dead?"
He shrugged. "Kind of. I'm here to show you something."
"But you're dead. How am I talking to you?"
"Just shut up, Lucas. As I said, I'm here to show you something."
"And what is that?" I squinted at him.
"Luke, you have a choice. I'm here to help you make it. You get to choose whether you live or you die." He held his hand out for me.
"I already decided that, isn't that why I'm here?" I motioned to the whiteness around us.
"Don't be stubborn. Come on." I hesitantly grabbed his hand. My body shook, and suddenly I was back in an old school. My old school, when I first moved here.
There was the younger me, playing checkers with younger Calum. He was my first friend when I moved here, soon my only one.
It soon flashed again and again, showing all of Calum and I's memories.
Soon I was at a funeral, Michael's funeral. I remember that day, it was the hardest day of my life. His girlfriend Grace stood next to me, crying. She was crushed. Calum stood on my other side, trying not to cry as well.
It flashed again, showing memories from my family, all our vacations, holidays, small moments with my brothers.
"Michael, what is this about?" I said, only to have him slap my arm and tell me to shut up again. Typical.
It flashed again to the halls of my high school. I was walking before I bumped into a girl.
Skylar.
Soon the memories flashed again. Kisses, smiles, endless hours of watching The Breakfast Club. Her beautiful smile, even my own smile.
All the laughing we shared. I could see the way she looked at me. I never noticed before, the way she looked at me.
Skylar loved me.
I knew she loved me, but I didn't know she loved me this much. Her eyes sparkled when she looked at me. And so did mine.
I loved her.
Soon we were back to the white.
"Michael..."
"Luke, there's one more thing I need you to see." He said quickly. Suddenly we were in the hospital room, my limp body on the hospital bed. Skylar was holding my hand, crying into the blanket, the letter I wrote her on the floor.
"Is this-"
"Listen to her, Luke." Michael said, pointing to her.
I looked to her as she sat up again. She wiped her face with her sleeve, holding my hand so tight.
"Luke, please. Please don't leave me, not like this," she said, looking at my body. "You're the most important person in my life, y-you make me so happy. I couldn't live without you, Calum couldn't live without you, your mom and dad, your brothers. You think people don't care, but Luke, we care. We care so much." She caressed my face softly. "I didn't know how broken you were, I thought I did and I thought I understood. Please don't leave me Luke, don't leave us."
"Skylar." I whispered, but she didn't turn towards my voice, instead continued to cry.
Michael flashed us back to the white nothingness.
"See, Luke, you have people to live for. Think of Skylar." Michael said sadly.
"You had Grace." I pointed out.
"Luke, I didn't have a choice!" He said loudly. "Do you realize I would do anything to go back for Grace? God, Luke, I'm trying to convince you to continue living!"
"I don't want to!" I said loudly back.
"You only wanted a way out because I wasn't there. You got bad because I was gone. I was you best friend," He said. "And as your best friend, I'm obligated to help you."
"I didn't want to die because of you, Michael, I-"
"You were alone. Calum and I were all you had. Calum got popular and forgot about you. You were alone and neglected," Michael shook his head. "That's not a reason to kill yourself. You have a lot to live for. I didn't have a choice of dying in that car crash."
"I'm sorry." I said quietly.
Michael cleared his throat. "Luke, the choice is yours. Do you want to go with me, or go back to Earth and live a life?"
I looked at him, swallowing hard.
"Well?" He said impatiently.
"Well, Michael, I think..." I looked down at my hands, before looking back at him.
