Liam's POV*
I sent a text to the boys in the ambulance and they all said they would meet us there. When we got to the hospital Emily was rushed into a private room and a group of doctors surrounded her, calling out various things to each other that I didn’t understand. She was put on a drip and had oxygen tubes put up her nose and connected to a machine. She was still unconscious and pale, now coated in a thin layer of sweat. The doctors had managed to get her out of her dress and change her into a hospital gown.
I had never felt this helpless before. There was literally nothing I could do to help her, I was just standing here, watching. I didn't know if she could hear anything, but I really hoped she couldn’t. She had always hated hospitals and if she could hear what was going on I know she would be terrified.
The doctors finished examining her after what felt like hours but I’m sure was no longer than half an hour and they all exited the room. Only one doctor stayed, a blonde woman, around thirty years old. She gestured for me to sit in the chair next to Emily’s bed and she pulled over a chair from the corner of the room and sat next to me.
“Hello, I understand that you are Emily’s fiancé?” She confirmed and I nodded. “Well, I just wanted to ask a few questions about Emily.” I nodded again, not having the strength to speak. “Has Emily been under a lot of stress lately?” She questioned.
I thought through the past few months and realised how stressful everything had been. Everything with Perrie, the months of travelling, not being able to just be at home and relax, arguing with her parents, it all added up.
It took me a few moments to form a sentence in my mind that actually made sense.
“I suppose she has, yeah”, I informed the woman and she nodded understandingly.
“Well everything is fine at the moment, stress was the most likely cause for what happened but everything looks normal and the babies are fine”, she told me and relief was the only feeling that existed for a few seconds.
“Why hasn’t she woken up yet?” I asked, suddenly concerned again.
“She’s got concussion, she hit her head pretty hard when she fell and she lost a lot of blood,” I looked up and realised that one of the tubes that were attached to Emily’s hand lead to a bag filled with blood. “She’s on a drip to get everything back to normal though. We will have to keep her here for a few days in case of any complications, you’re welcome to stay here with her. We don’t know when she will wake up but it shouldn’t be too long.” She gave me a kind smile and got up, moving the chair back to the corner of the room and slipped out of the door as I thanked her.
Harry’s POV*
The boys, Eleanor and myself were all gathered in the waiting room, making no effort to make conversation with each other, just sitting there. I looked up to see that the boys and I were all sitting in the same position, our elbows on our knees and our chins resting on our hands, looking down at the floor. Eleanor was biting her thumb nail, her elbow resting on her knee, her legs crossed underneath her arm, just staring into space. We all looked up in unison every time somebody walked past, hoping it was Liam coming to tell us what was going on. We had been here for over an hour now and every minute that past made us more worried and nervous.
We all looked up and thankfully saw Liam, his eyes were swollen and red and it was evident that he had been crying, and I honestly couldn’t blame him. I was using all of my strength to stop tears pouring out of my own eyes and I could tell that the boys were doing the same. Eleanor had cried when we first got here but had barely even blinked since then. We all stood up and just stared at Liam, just waiting for him to say something.
“She’s okay”, was the first thing he said, we all dropped our arms to our sides and sighed with relief, “she’s still unconscious and she’s lost a lot of blood, she’s hooked up to the oxygen machine, but she’s going to be okay”, he reeled off everything we needed to know all in one go, which I was grateful for, I just wanted to know it all straight away. We all walked towards him and engulfed him in a hug.
“Can we see her?” I asked and he nodded, leading us to her room.
I was the first one to enter the room and a small gasp escaped my mouth when I saw Emily. She looked awful. Her face was drained of all colour and coated in a layer of sweat and her hair was damp and matted. She was completely motionless even the movement of her chest was almost invisible as she breathed lightly. I found myself crying at the sight of her, the way she looked so unaware of what was happening, the way she seemed so distant.
We all stood around her bed, me, Zayn and Liam all crying, Niall was just staring at her, not knowing how to react and Eleanor just walked out of the room, Louis following behind her. Zayn went to ask a nurse for some more chairs and returned carrying a stack of three chairs. When Louis and Eleanor returned, both obviously having just cried, we all sat down and waited. Waited for Emily to wake up, for her to be okay.
We spent the entire day just sitting with Emily, making little conversation, occasionally trying to talk to her to bring her back to consciousness, hoping she could hear us so that we could at least try and comfort her. It got to eleven at night and she was still out of it. With much persuasion, we had managed to get the nurse to let us all stay with her, saying that it’s what Emily would want, which she would. We were all given a blanket each and were left alone with each other and Emily. Zayn, Eleanor, Niall and Louis all fell asleep at about 1am, leaving just me and Liam awake.
“She’s going to be okay”, I told him, putting my hand on his shoulder and giving him the most comforting smile I could manage.
“I just want her to wake up Harry”, he said and I nodded.
“She will.”
