Sonder- the realization that each passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own

You were never the type to under think anything. You were fascinated with thoughts and the way others live. You were fascinated by everything. You thought constantly and the wheels in your head never stopped turning for a minute.

You were walking down the street. It was raining and you couldn't help but love the way the rain affected people. People stood under canopies, on the phone with loved ones presumably to tell them they would by late to dinner. Others took out a wide range of umbrellas to cover themselves from the droplets falling from the sky. You just let the rain fall on you. You loved how it soaked your hair and your clothes. It was a great feeling.

You walked down the street, passing individuals whom you didn't know the names of. And you were okay with that. You had no desire to think about them or their lives. Until you saw him.

A man walking down the street in a pair of dress pants, a white button up, and a black tie. He carried a briefcase and a dark blue umbrella in his hands. His eyes were dark gray and his hair was the color of a raven. He was gorgeous. And in that moment, you felt sonder.

Sonder was an emotion you'd heard of, but never felt. But in this moment, you came to the strange realization that this man had a life. He was just like you, living Day to day. He could have a family or he could live alone. Either way his life was plagued with just as many issues as yours was.

The man hesitantly stopped under a canopy. He looked annoyed as he stared at the sky and watched the rain pour. And you did something you were almost certain you would have never done on any other day.

You went to speak with him.

"Um.... hello." You approached him awkwardly. You probably looked like a mess, your wet (H/C) hair plastered to your face. He looked at you.

"Oh, hi." He said. You smiled.

"My name is (Y/N)! I saw you waiting here and I wondered if you wanted to go to the coffee shop with me. The rain won't let up for a little while, so you should at least be comfy while you wait!" You pointed out. The man seemed to be in deep though before he agreed.

"Okay, sure. My name is Levi by the way." He said. You sighed in relief before giving him a wide smile.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you. Come on, it's right down here." You said, leading the man under the canopies and to a small coffee shop. You led him inside and smiled as you saw your friend Luciel at the counter.

"Sup Luciel." You said as you made your way to the counter with Levi.

"Nothing much buttercup. Who's this?" The red head asked, gesturing to the male.

"This is Levi. We decided to get coffee while we wait for the rain to let up!" You explained. Luciel nodded.

"Cool. The usual?" He asked you. You nodded.

"And for you?" He asked, addressing Levi.

"Just a chai tea." He said. Luciel typed it in.

"That'll be $8.56." He said. You started to pull out your wallet until Levi stopped you.

"No, it's fine. I'm going to pay." He said, pulling out his wallet and handing Luciel your credit card as fast as he could. You smiled.

"Thank you." You said.

"No problem. Not everyday I meet a beautiful stranger." He said, smiling. You blushed.

"I could say the same to you." You flirted.

"So, tell me everything." You said.

"About what?"

"About your life." You replied.

"Okay. I was born and raised here in Shinganishina. I have 1 sister named Hanji and currently I live with her in an apartment. I work as a CEO." He said.

"That's cool." You said.

"Tell me about why you want to know so much about me." He said. You blushed heavily.

"Well, I've never really had much interest in other people's lives before, but when I saw you, something gave my the urge to want to connect with you and learn about your life because your life was as vivid and complex as mine." You explained.

"Sonder." Levi said. You cocked your head.

"Sonder. What's sonder?" You asked.

"It's a feeling that describes the sudden thought that every person you pass has a life just like your own, just as vivid and just as complex." He explained, sipping his tea. You smiled and nodded.

"I guess I felt sonder then. So tell me more." You urged.

"Well, I used to play basketball, but stopped to pursue business. I've only had 2 girlfriends before and I've never been in a relationship for more than 4 months." He said. You smiled.

"Really. You don't look like the kind of guy who would have only had 2 girlfriends." You flirted. Levi rolled his eyes.

"You're trying to flirt with me, aren't you?" He said.

"Is it working?" You asked. He sighed.

"Yes it is."

That day you learned the meaning of Sonder as well as the feeling of Love.
