Chapter 33

We're standing outside to avoid anyone else listening as Castiel tries to reach God for at least ten minutes. "Dad, we need your help." "Father, will you come help us?" "It's Lucifer, Dad. Help us find him." It doesn't work. God doesn't appear.
"My turn," Gabriel announces. "Dad, come help." Pause. Nope. "Dad, we need you, so get your ass down here right now." Pause. Nope. "Dad, Lucifer needs you, so get your ass down here right now." Pause. Nope. "Dammit, Dad! I don't care what you're doing right now. Stop it and get the hell down here, now. We need your help. Lucifer needs your help. We know you care about him way more than us. I would have hoped that would be enough to get you to come help us out. So, what, are you just going to ignore me now? Ignore us? Great. I see how it is. You couldn't even be bothered to come check it out? Fine. Screw you, too."
Suddenly, God appears in front of us. "You know, Gabriel, I do have other priorities."
"More important than Lucifer?" Gabriel challenges.
God nods. "Yes, more important than helping out my son who doesn't want my help anyway."
"Of course he wants your help," Gabriel protests.
"He's made it very clear that he does not. I wish you the best, of course, but he wouldn't want me to help you help him."
"You can't just not help us," I protest. "Lucifer could be in danger."
"Oh, I have very little doubt that he is," God replies. "But he would not want to 'owe me one.' He does not want my help, so I will not give it to him. Should he ask himself, I will rethink my decision. Unless that happens, I wish you the best of luck with whatever you are about to do. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a couple thousand other planets to attend to."
He vanishes, leaving the rest of us dumbfounded. He's not going to help us? But it's God! It's Lucifer's dad! He can't just not help out his son!
"Well, back to square one," Misha observes with a sigh. "Where do we go from here?"
"No idea," Gabriel replies. "I don't think there's anything we can do, really. I mean, he could be anywhere. He could be on Mars, for all we know. We're never going to find him."
The worst part is that I know he's right. We have no way to find where he went. Our only chance was God, and he passed us up. We're out of options now.
"Oh, don't be such a downer."
Instantly, our heads whip over to see Rob standing nearby. I know for a fact that he wasn't there a few moments ago. Wow, I hate this guy.
"What did you do to Lucifer?" Gabriel demands.
"Oh, he's fine," Rob assures us. "Well, alive, anyway."
"Where is he?" Gabriel growls.
"Oh, you want me to bring him here?" Rob offers.
He snaps his fingers, and suddenly, Lucifer appears. He's strapped to a chair, a strange contraption around his head. It reminds me of the metal ring around Samandriel's head in the show. There are metal spikes stabbing through his head, and he's bleeding profusely.
He stares straight ahead with permanently red eyes, not looking at anything in particular. His mouth is open slightly, as if he doesn't have the will to close it. All his muscles are relaxed, and it seems as if he can't use them, almost as if he doesn't know how.
"What did you do to him?" I ask.
"Just experimented a little," Rob replies. "I see you drank your punch."
"What, did you spike it?" I ask. "Because I seem to be immune. I've never felt better."
Rob grins. "I'm sorry. I'm not at liberty to discuss that with you."
"Meaning?" I prompt.
"Meaning you'll figure it out later," he replies. "And I have to say, your boyfriend is just the nicest party guest ever. Really, much more fun than anyone else I've gotten to play around with."
"Fix him," Gabriel growls.
"Fine, fine."
He rolls his eyes and begins pulling the metal poles from Lucifer's head. As soon as he pulls the last one, the straps of the chair fall off, and the metal contraption on Lucifer's head flies off and slams into the side of the house.
Lucifer blinks a couple times as if taking in his surroundings. He attempts to stand up, but he stumbles and sinks back into the chair with a groan. His eyes lose their red glow, returning to their usual icy blue. I run up to him, trying to shake him into reality.
"Luce," I murmur. "Luce, hey. Look at me. Lucifer!"
Slowly, Lucifer lifts his eyes to meet mine, a slightly puzzled expression on his tired face. His voice is hoarse, impossible to understand when he speaks.
"Lucifer, are you okay?" I ask.
Gabriel walks up to us and waves a hand over Lucifer's head, healing the wounds and cleaning up the blood at the same time. Lucifer blinks slowly and then looks up at him.
"What... What's going on?" he asks softly.
"We don't know," Gabriel replies. "Rob just did... Something."
"Rob..." Lucifer looks around, his eyes landing on me instead of Rob, who is watching with an amused grin. He kicks his chair away and takes a step away from me.
"What?" I ask. "Lucifer, what's wrong?"
Lucifer takes another step away, then looks around again. This time, he finally finds Rob. His eyes flare red again. "What did you do to her?" he demands, the first truly coherent sentence he's spoken since his return.
"Not much," Rob replies. "And if you feel like you're short a couple tablespoons of blood, check her punch."
"You —" Lucifer begins to charge him, but he stops, suddenly falling to the ground. I see it this time, flames outlining the wings no longer visible to me. He cries out, but no one does anything. I can't; I'm frozen in place against my will, and I know it is Rob's doing.
Lucifer's wings, burning with fire so hot that it's turning blue, wrap around himself. He whimpers quietly but doesn't cry out. His eyes are squeezed shut, his muscles tensed. Finally, the fire stops.
"I've missed that," Rob announces with a satisfied smile.
"What the hell was that?" Alexis demands.
I look over to see her marching outside with Macie and Jesse, and Julia standing just outside the door with wide, fearful eyes.  Well, so much for not worrying her.
"That, my dear, was fun," Rob replies. With a snap of his fingers, he teleports Macie, Jesse, and her next to us.
"How was that fun?" Alexis demands. "You just burned his wings!"
"You're right," he agrees, much to all our surprises. "I don't believe we've met before."
"No, we haven't," she confirms.
"My name is Rob," he tells her. "Or Zeus, technically. And you are?"
"Alexis," she replies hesitantly.
I wish I could tell her to stop, warn her about him, but my vocal chords don't work. It's undoubtably thanks to Rob.
"Alexis," he repeats, trying the name out. "Not what I would have called you."
"Why do you care?"
"Well, it's only fair that I should get a say in it," he replies. "Obviously, I missed my chance to help with baby names. It's a shame. I haven't had a daughter in a while."
"What are you talking about?" Alexis asks, her voice shaking.
"Oh, you didn't know?" He glances at Macie and Jesse. "Oh, of course. They wouldn't have told you, would they? You're my daughter, not... the demon's."
"What?" She looks over at the only parents she's known until today. "He's lying, right? Right?" She can tell on their faces that he's not. "What the hell, Mom? My dad is a freaking god? I can't believe you never told me!"
I get hit a small raindrop, cold from the near freezing temperatures. The drops come quicker and quicker, until soon it's pouring.
Alexis walks up to Zeus. "I'm your daughter?"
Zeus nods. "You are.
"My mom is Lucifer's daughter, and she's much more powerful than him," she tells him. "I bet it's the same thing here, don't you think?"
"And?" Zeus prompts.
"So I bet I could take you down with the snap of my fingers," Alexis continues. "So maybe you should fix Lucifer's wings before I turn you into a pile of ashes."
Zeus studies her for a moment, debating the threat level. Finally, he snaps his fingers, and I know Lucifer is healed.
"Better?" he asks.
"Much," Alexis replies. "And now I'm going to kill you anyway."
"Ah ah ah. Can't have that, now, can we?" Suddenly, he disappears, leaving us alone out here.
"Alexis —" Macie begins, but Alexis interrupts her.
"You lied to me. You told me Jesse was my dad, not Zeus."
"Because you don't know Zeus," Macie tells her. "You don't know the hell he's put us through, me and my dad especially. He doesn't deserve to be called a dad."
"I don't care. You lied to me. You couldn't even be bothered to tell me that he was my dad? You couldn't even mention it, just once?"
"But —"
"If you didn't want me looking up to him like a father, fine. I get that," Alexis continues. "But you should have told me. I deserved to know who I am, what I am. You had no right to keep that from me."
"I know, but —"
"I don't want your excuses," Alexis interrupts. "I just — I don't. I'm out." With a quiet whoosh of her wings, she's gone, leaving us all in an even bigger mess than before.

A/N I'm running out of ideas here. I've got this mess sorts planned out (only not really) but once that's over, I've got nothing.
