The next day, Hermione tried to wave hello or smile at him, but she'd always end up being blocked by Draco's friends. During transfiguration, Crabbe was sent to the hospital wing for a week so Draco had no other choice but to be partners with Goyle. Luckily when he got out about a week later, Draco and Hermione were finally going to be partners again.
But atleast that's what they both thought.
"Mr. Potter, you are to be excused of this class. Someone needs to have a talk with you," said Professor Mcgonagall to Harry. Meaning Ron had no partner this time. "Yes!" Pansy muttered under her breath. Blaise looked at her, "What? atleast he'll get to start losing contact with her, right?" she whispered.
"Yeah, but Draco's alone. Look how sad he is"
"You're right. Professor Mcgonagall can Draco be partnered with us and Blaise?" Pansy raised her hand.
"Well, for the sake of today, all right. But let's expect tomorrow that Potter will be back so Draco can go to his respective partner in class" said Professor Mcgonagall, as they continue on with their lesson.
It has been a rough two weeks for Draco and Hermione. Draco did however earned a lot of friends in the slytherin house during those two weeks. Some have even told Draco how much they hated Harry Potter for being an attention seeker all the time just because he was the boy who lived.
Hermione tried to take glances at him on the other side of the hall but he wasn't looking. So she decided to forget about it.
She had thought that she's only got few friends because people would call her out as a know-it-all and a show off. Heck, she didn't even like Ron's attitude that much at all. Sadly the only people who actually appreciated her wits are Susan and Draco. But Susan's got friends of her own, she wouldn't want to mix with people she's not that much close with. Same thing with Malfoy.
However after those two weeks of practical avoidance planned by Draco's friends so he wouldn't get into trouble, There was this one day at the great hall when he received a package from his mother.
"Ooohh, what's that?" Goyle asked. "Keep your nose away from it, it's not food" Draco scoffed.
"Well don't be rude, open it!" Pansy said.
But Draco had a strong feeling that it could be the book he was asking for. so he decided to keep it under his robes, finished dinner quickly and went to the courtyard alone.
Draco ripped out the paper too see a fresh-new copy of Anne of Green Gables with a note in front of it which read,
Dear Draco,
I hope you enjoy this book. It took Dobby days to search for it. Don't worry, you can trust Dobby. And about that girl you've been talking about, What's her name? I'd love to get to know her!
Love,
Mother
Draco beamed at the book, though as much as he wanted to read it, it was still covered in plastic, all and new. But he'd always wanted to give it to Hermione. and that's exactly what he was going to do. "Anne of green gables? what's that?" Blaise asked.
"I've never heard of it," said Pansy.
"Is it a muggle book?" Crabbe asked, looking at Draco.
"None of your business," Draco chuckled nervously
he went out of the great hall to quickly wrap the book which he bought from a prefect that went to hogsmeade that same day. However, he couldn't possibly just hand it over to Hermione, knowng that his friends would get mad at him because they all know now that she is a muggle-born, so he looked for possible opportunities to give it to her. Sadly, she started tagging along Harry and Ron.
