"Happy birthday to you," Narcissa walks in with a stack of pancakes in her hand, since she couldn't have the courage to get out of the manor ever since the war. "Happy birthday to you.." she sang.
"Happy birthday dear Draco," she gently places the stack of pancakes down on his table. "Happy birthday to you," her voice started to slow down softly, caressing her son's head, who's face had no expression etched on him whatsoever. He wasn't happy, he wasn't sad. Draco looked down at the stack of pancakes with a candle lit on top of it.
"Make a wish, sweetie" she whispered.
Draco didn't say a word. Instead, he blew out his candles and hoped for the best.
A month ago, Draco showed courage like never before. Instead of coming to the dark side with Voldemort, he insisted to stay. After what has happened to him, he starts to wonder why would he go to the people who ruined his life for so many years? Goyle, who looked very bruised because Draco had dueled him for killing Crabbe, looked at Draco in disgust. It was then when it was clear that Draco and Goyle were no longer friends.
The result of Draco's semi-heroic actions lead to the terrible death of his father. No matter how much he declined, he still ran back to his mother and to the dead corpse of his own father. But he did the right thing. He stood up for himself and along the fellow hogwarts students. A few days later Narcissa's sister, Andromeda, was killed for being cursed by one of the unknown death eaters who wanted revenge on the Malfoys and on the Blacks too.
Hence, Narcissa and Draco were spared from azkaban not only because of what Draco did at the war, but also they had to take care of Teddy Lupin.
Teddy was nothing but an innocent young child. So clueless to the world. Speaking of-- "Oh, that must be Teddy, hold on" said Narcissa, dissapearing from the dining table up to Teddy's bassinet.
Draco looked very dull, and pale, just like when the curse used to hurt him. The dark circles under his eyes were very prominent, he was skinnier, and he looked unhealthy. Narcissa tries her utmost best to keep her son back up on his feet. It was hard in all honesty. But she wasn't just giving up and just seeing her son down and depressed.
After that day, Narcissa had a heart-to-heart talk with Draco.
"Why didn't you want me to invite your friends?" she asked.
"I don't have any friends." said Draco dryly.
                              "Well, what about Blaise? Pansy?"
"I haven't talked to Pansy in a while. Probably never again." he sighed.
"Look, honey, I know it's tough going thru a breakup--"
"I honestly am fine with breaking up with her. I just can't believe she had to hide something from me and expect me to be friends with her again."
                              "What do you mean?"
"Hermione must've liked me back before. But she had to keep that a secret from me." he scoffed.
"Speaking about Hermione Granger... Did she knew that you liked her?"
                              "I think so, yeah."
                              "What did she say?"
"Nothing if it regards to my feelings." he sighed.
"Do you still love her?" Narcissa asked.
"I wish I could stop." he hugged his knees. "I was so afraid of losing her... As ironic as it might sound, I just did." he continued.
"Draco.. It's never too late to tell her how you feel. I remember my little boy owling me a bunch of letters asking what do girls like and begged to buy you a book that was very difficult to find" he chuckled as his eyes teared up a bit.
