It was finally christmas break, Draco was too stubborn not to befriend Harry. Instead, the slytherins thought it would be cool to make fun of Harry since he's got nowhere to stay for christmas break.
Oddly enough, none of his friends are going away for christmas break. Crabbe and Goyle's parents were out of town for a business trip. Millicent was left to spend the christmas at the hospital wing because of Blaise's failed charm, and Pansy had to stay for her. Luckily it didn't do much damage to Millicent's memories yet Blaise had to take detentions with Filch.
Which leaves us with Draco, who was already packed and ready to visit the manor. But how is he going to tell his father that he's not bringing Harry Potter with him?
When he finally boarded the train, it was half empty, knowing that there are lots of students who aren't coming home for christmas. He sat down at a nearby empty compartment, chill along by the window side, when he suddenly saw Hermione, who was practically running to the door of the train, yelling at the conductor, "Hold on! wait!" bringing tons of bags with her.
The train had started moving, and just in time for her to actually board the train. And to his surprise, Hermione appeared in the doorway of his compartment, looking back at him, thinking whether or not she should go inside or not.
But then she thought that maybe if she talk to him about Snape, perhaps he might uncover the truth on what he already knows.
She sheepishly smiled, and let herself in without Draco's consent; and even Draco himself was left speechless, watching her as she sits down on the opposite side of his seat.
And to think that Hermione would stay silent for the rest of the train ride, she finally spoke, "Good afternoon, Draco" his heart raced. and yet the only thing he did was look back at her with a sheepish smile.
"So, what are your plans for the holiday?" she asked. he shrugged.
"Well, I was planning to help my parents at the clinic this christmas" she said, trying her best to make him speak. But he only glanced at her, and then looked back at the window.
"You know I kind of like winter, what's your favourite season?" she asked again, and yet he didn't answer.
"Are you okay?" she asked once more. But she didn't have anything else to say unless she go straight to the point. But she knew that if she did, he would've left the compartment.
So she sighed, and accepted his silent treatment, she opened one of her bags, to reveal the book Draco has given to her, only she doesn't know it was from him.
She leaned against the window, put her legs on the seat, and started reading.
Draco took a while until he had noticed that she was finally reading the book he gave her. So he finally spoke, "I thought you didn't have that book? Anne of Green Gables?"
"Oh, I didn't. My parents gave it to me" said Hermione briefly.
"Oh." Draco nodded, and pursed his lips. She must've thought it was from her parents.
"If you want, I can let you borrow it afterwards,"
"No thank you" he shook his head, and turned his head back to the window.
"It's kind of funny though. The owl must've got lost, Professor Snape found it in his classroom." said Hermione. Draco gulped, and looked back at her.
"W-what do you mean?" he stuttered.
"He gave it to me. There's no return address. Anyway, speaking of Professor Snape--"
"I'm going to go to the loo" Draco rolled his eyes when he cut her sentence off, knowing that she just wants Draco to tell him the truth about the book.
