Darkness is calling my name

Over a month had passed since the abduction and most of Aisha's life went back to normal. Well, not really. She still continued with school and work but now the rest of her time wasn't spent in a deafening silence of her room but rather with Jay, Alina or both of them.

She hadn't slept. She hadn't felt tired and apparently didn't need sleep to function any longer. But she wanted it. It was her only escape from everything. Now it just felt like all of her days have been merged into one and she was exhausted.

Her eyes have been turning red multiple times a day and she was getting used to it. She had also started hearing things. Voices in her head. Voices that did not belong to her. Her demons. It was the best explanation she could think of and the one Alina and Jay agreed with the most. She could only hope she had them under control and trapped inside her head. Not because they were killers, like Jay's, no, they were much worse. They tortured... they had killed what was good inside of her, made her feel unsafe, sad, worthless. They had made her who she was now. Numb, emotionless...if they could ever escape her brain, it could be dangerous for the people around her.

She hadn't heard from Jay in a week though and that concerned her far more than any unknown voices in her damaged brain.

During bio, she had also asked Alina if she had any more luck but she denied any contact with the boy.

It had just been the two of them since last Sunday when he promised to return to school the following day. He hadn't shown up but they were both used to his habit of skipping class so it didn't worry them until they finally concluded that neither of them heard him either. Aisha knew she was supposed to realise it sooner but she was so preoccupied with getting to know the girl she fancied for years she didn't think of anyone else. By now, she had realised she had no romantic feelings or interests for the blonde, however they became fast friends and were nearly inseparable by then.

Jay was a different story. She could recognise the gentle fluttering of the butterflies every time their hands brushed or he looked at her with a soft look reserved just for her. She felt sick thinking about how long it took her to miss his presence but she refused to ponder on what that said about her feelings for him. With her thoughts all over the place, however, she had decided to skip her next class.

Instead, she put her schoolbag in her locker and exited the school property. She trudged over a muddy path that led pass the local graveyard up to a hill looking over it. When she was on top, she plopped herself down onthe long grass, enjoying its' last few weeks of freedom before winter put it back into the icy confinement. The snow and ice were not there yet but the early November's weather was in full force and the nature was preparing for its' slumber. She sighed, wondering if Jay was close enough for her to hear him. Desperate, she closed her eyes and called his name in her head. "Jay?" no sound came back.

Somehow, she could feel his presence but she couldn't hear his thoughts, just an empty mind. She called out his name, this time out loud, as the cold breeze sent chills all over her body. "Jay!" she could hear the sound of his name in the wind that was blowing around her, carrying her desperate voice away.

She tried once again as anxiety started spreading all over her body, threatening to consume her. "I'm here Jay, talk to me."

"I can't," a silent whisper ran through her mind and the hurt in his voice scared her. She could feel his presence fading as he shut her out. "Wait, no!" she tried to stop him but was left with nothing but silence once again. She was about to scream and rage or even call Alina to help her do something, anything, when her phone rang. The second her dad's contact showed on her screen, she knew. She didn't know how, but she knew. Surely enough, after she answered she heard the words a part of her dreaded since she was 10. Wordlessly, she hung up on him, turning the phone off completely.

A silent scream escaped her lips as pain pierced her body. She put her head between her knees, trying to out-scream all the voices that were shouting in her pained mind.

They found her mom. All this years she had spent blaming her for leaving, she was dead. Murdered.

Her entire body shook with agony and hurt and she couldn't fight her demons any longer. After a final scream, she let the darkness consume her.

In the back of her mind she could hear Jay calling her name.
