"I wasn't supposed to feel anything" she remarked, fighting back tears.
"Your demon feeds on your emotions, your pain and your fears. When it started controlling you, you had none of those anymore. It had nothing to feed on so it starved to the point in which it completely lost control over you. It's going to take it awhile to get strong again." Claire explained in a soft voice, before turning her attention back to her brother. "Are we going to go see that Caleb guy then? And it would be good to find the other one too...Jay, wasn't it? He must be freaking out and we can't lose him or he will attack again."
Lucas nodded, before tightening his grip on Aisha, helping her to walk out of the graveyard down the dusty concrete road again. "I assume you came with a car?"
"Oh now suddenly you want to drive with it..." Claire said, rolling her eyes.
"As much as I don't support your job, this is urgent. Can we wait here while you go get it, I don't know how far she can walk?"
Claire let out a short laugh and walks away, down the road and across the playground. Aisha watched her, unable to tear away her gaze until the beauty disappeared behind a big, old house with broken windows and ivy overgrowing its' walls.
Lucas gently kissed her forehead and quietly asked if she was okay. All she could do was shake her head. Her best friend was dying and it was her fault. She should have never left the city. Or let the demon to consume her. She pushed Jay over the edge and she didn't know how to fix it.
She was grateful for Lucas' calming presence, his entirely peaceful face a stark contrast with her panicked state.
"Can you now explain to me the deal with your family?" she asked, trying desperately to distract her mind.
"I didn't want to freak you out and I didn't think it would matter anyway but now I'm sorry for lying," he said. He paused, waiting for her acknowledgement before continuing.
"So, most of the things I said are true, I only lied about dates to be very honest. You saw the date on my mothers' grave. I was born in 1856, like I said, the year before my mom passed away. Only it wasn't a car crash, dads' experiment killed her. You see, my father was born with this inside of him... but since he is a lot like me, he didn't know there was something wrong with it, he just had an additional voice inside of him, nothing more. After my sister was born with it too...well let's just say he realised this isn't normal at all. So he did a bunch of experiments on her to see what causes it. When I was born without it, he snapped. He already realised he is not aging after the age of 18 and that just meant that Claire won't either. He wanted our family to be together forever, so he started experimenting on mom to make her like them. He didn't quite know what he was doing and she died in the process. He got better at it by the time I was old enough for him to do it, you know, did his research and everything. We were already at his new place, he shared it with another family, the North's, in case you remember, after my uncle killed himself. And they had this basement, a chamber if you want. He kept me there for months."
She gave him a startled and confused look so he gave her the slightest bit of a sad smile before continuing, his voice laced with sadness. "Yes I needed longer than you guys, because I didn't have much emotions and fears to begin with. My demons weren't easy to track. And he didn't even bother sedating me so I felt it all. When he was done with me my sister took me in and took care of me for a few months before I was stable again. She was sure I'm not going to make it..."
Strange noise interrupts him and they saw a black car driving towards them. "You use a car this loud to go people hunting? How stupid can you get?" Lucas laughed and opened the car door for Aisha. People hunting?
