More blood

When she felt Aisha's breathing evening out, Claire lifted her chin up gently and brought their lips together. Seconds later we were wrapped into a long, passionate kiss, not even noticing Eric had left them to join Jay and Alina.

Even so, their kiss was cut short by Jay's cry, followed by Alina's scream, so loud Aisha felt like it had damaged her hearing ability.

Claire let go of her in a second, rushing towards them while Aisha was still figuring out what had happened, dazed still by the kiss. She groaned inwardly, running after her girlfriend. She hated running. She saw Claire tackling Eric and she forced her legs to carry her faster, worry seeping inside her bones.

When she finally joined them, she saw a bloodied knife in Claire's hand. She kneeled down next to her and saw Eric with a slit throat. "Is he dead?" she whispered and Claire nodded in response.

"Are you okay?" she asked, turning to Alina.

"I am, he isn't," she let out, her voice shaking. Aisha turned around and see Jay laying in his own blood, gasping for air.

"Eric penetrated his lungs," Claire whispered after a careful examination of his injury. "I can't save him. Dying like this can take some time but I can speed up the process to avoid the suffering."

He looked at her and his lips moved, forming the word "Please". She placed his head on her lap and started singing quietly, calming him down and closing his eyes. After that, she stabbed him in his heart. "He is not suffering anymore," she said quietly, laying him entirely on the floor.

Alina was crying quietly but Aisha seemed to be numb. She had lost so many people and saw so much death in the past months; she guessed she just couldn't cry anymore.

"What in the Gods name happened?" she let out. "Eric was a contract killer, like me," Claire explained, her voice strained. "I should have figured out he was sent to kill Jay."

"But he had so many opportunities when they were alone. Why now?" Aisha stuttered, unable to make sense of anything.

"Well if you ask me, he figured out that Jay was useful. He was committing killings Eric was hired and paid for. I'm guessing he would have killed Jess if she showed up or asking about the kill. But today he figured out he doesn't have him under complete control and decided to finish the job. No doubt he would have killed Alina as well and ran if we didn't come fast enough," Claire explained.

"He underestimated you then," Aisha offered her a weak smile.

"Everyone does," she smiled back and sighed, "I suppose we have two more bodies to bury now."

"There is a lot of space," Aisha shrugged indifferently.

She felt like she had lost a piece of herself. She could describe it like death by a thousand paper cuts, for every time she lost someone it was another cut to her already damaged mind. One cut for her mom, one for dad, one for Caleb, one for Lucas...and now one for Jay. None of them were enough to kill her, but overtime they bled her of the humanity she had once had. Now she was just an empty shell.
