Sure enough, the following morning arrived and Aisha was back in school, trying to focus on whatever their bio teacher was talking about.
She tried to force her mind to actively listen when she heard her.
"Okay but is this woman serious? I'm not studying all of this in one night, no way. Is she out of her mind?"
'Who is saying that and why can I hear it?' ran through Aisha's mind, her eyes darting around the classroom in bewilderment.
"Wait...you can hear my thoughts?"
That voice again. She was officially losing her mind. Amazing.
"Yes, I can hear you," she thought to herself, feeling crazier by the minute.
"Well, hello then, I think," the voice responded. "You are distracting me from this rather informative lecture about respiratory system."
"I doubt anything about this lecture is informative but by all means, continue listening. Don't let me stop you," Aisha responded, hearing a chuckle in her mind.
Alina then turned in her chair from the row before Aisha's, her lips forming a smile as she winked.
"I'm Alina" she heard her voice as the blonde turned back to the teacher.
"Aisha," she thought to herself. "Now get out of my head."
Aisha could hear a giggle before she was left alone with her own thoughts, not sure if she could bear the sudden silence.
After class, Alina waited for her by the doors. "Hey," she smiled and Aisha nodded in response, her mind reeling. She could never in her wildest dreams imagine talking to the beauty, let alone have her initiating a conversation. "I didn't mean to freak you out earlier, I just don't know how this mind reading thing works just yet."
"It's okay, I thought I was going into a boredom induced coma so you may have saved my life," Aisha smiled softly, her heart skipping a beat when her comment elicited another giggle from the blonde, even better sounding in person than in her head. "You hate bio, I take?" she asked and Aisha groaned. "I'm more of a literature nerd, if I'm honest with you."
"I could see that," Alina winked at her. "You aren't the only one I'm hearing, though. You met Jay yet?"
"We met in person yesterday but I have never heard him. How long have you been hearing either of us?" Aisha asked, slight jealousy nibbling at her heart. "I heard Jay last night when I couldn't sleep, we spoke for a while. Turns out we live close together which I imagine is the reason I heard him and not you. You live by that old primary school, right?"
"It's a street away from mine but yes, close enough," Aisha nodded. "You live by the docks?"
"Yes, I moved there with my mom a couple of years ago. It's not much but one salary can only cover for that, you know?" she asked in lower voice, cheeks tinted red with embarrassment.
"Of course," Aisha nodded, struggling not to think about how cute she looked.
