They walked along the empty forest road that looks like it hadn't been used by anyone in a long time. They stumbled over tree roots and tried to make their way through the shrubs that were spreading its' branches over the road, Eric and Jay both struggling under the weight of dead bodies they were carrying.
They finally came to the spot Eric had deemed suitable for their last resting place and they threw the corpses on the ground, showing no sign of respect for the people they once were. The eyes of the stranger Jay had murdered were still open and to Aisha, it seemed like he was staring up at her with a glassy look. Feeling uneasy, she lean down and closed them.
While Jay kept himself busy by digging out a grave big enough for both bodies, Aisha dragged Eric to the side.
"It's time for you to start talking," she demanded quietly.
"Look, we have an agreement. He or his demon or whatever has the urge to kill and I have people that need to be killed. You know how gangs are. This people would be killed either way, so we just combine these two to avoid innocent victims. He had been very good at maintaining this until now. As for other stuff, he didn't tell me much. I figured out most of it on my own," he replied calmly, as if they were talking about the weather and not about multiple murders their friend had committed.
"Lovely," she remarked sarcastically.
"He isn't safe to be around anyone anymore," Eric point out something so obvious the brunette wished Alina snapped again and stabbed him as well. "No kidding?" she groaned, annoyed.
"I'm just saying...and that friend of yours...Claire? Can she fix it?" he asked, unbeknownst to the pain he'd cause the brunette by asking it.
"She can always fix everything," Aisha replied grimly, sad smile forming on her lips. "At least she could, she could be dead by now for all we know."
"What in the Gods name are you kids doing?" Aisha heard someone asking, probably to Jay who was still digging and Alina who was keeping him company. The voice she hadn't heard in so long sent electricity through her body as she turned around to see the outline of the girl she loved, as perfect as ever. "Claire," she whispered, awe tinting her voice. She kept staring at her, struggling to determine if it was all just in her head or if she was actually there. Then she spoke again, making butterflies in her stomach fly.
"I leave y'all alone for three months and you are already out here killing people," she complained half-heartedly, but Aisha could hear her amusement. "Now where is my girl?"
Her question struck her like the lightning as she called out her name. Claire turned around seconds later and even from afar Aisha could see her lips forming a big smile as she started walking towards her. It took everything in the brunette's power not to run to her as she slowly started making her way towards her girlfriend. As she was getting closer, she stopped caring about how desperate she might look and just run to her, wrapping her arms around her neck, nearly knocking her over. She hugged her just as tight with both of her hands as she regained the balance, chuckling quietly at Aisha's enthusiasm.
"Hey baby girl," she whispered softly and the top of her head as the brunette cried softly into her shoulder. She had missed her so much. Claire rested her cheek against the top of her head as she caressed her hair gently, waiting for her to calm down and for her tears to stop falling. And for the first time in three months, she felt safe.
