An hour later, there were still no signs of Jay. They slowly gathered all of their stuff to buy him some time, but it shortly became obvious that they were leaving without him.
They closed their doors carefully and tried to sneak out of the house, one by one. Well, at least until it was Alina's turn to join them. She quickly fell behind.
"See, that's why we shouldn't have let her to go last," Claire rolled her eyes while Aisha went back to fetch the blonde.
"We need to go," she deadpanned, taking Alina's hand. "What if he comes the second we leave?" she asked, but she didn't fight her. "He made a choice Alina. He is probably long gone by now."
"I'll miss him," she whispered, more to herself than to Aisha. "You will see him again," the brunette replied calmingly, not even trying to sound convincing. Alina wasn't paying attention to her anyway.
Finally we reach the spot where we left the car and get inside. "How come Lucas gets to call a shoot gun?" Aisha complained, as she plopped herself down in the back next to Alina. She really wanted to sit next to Claire, maybe even hold her hand. She pouted until Lucas turned around. "Your girlfriend didn't seem to mind," he grinned, sticking his tongue out. "Don't be childish," she rolled her eyes. However, her mood was suddenly improved, the world girlfriend sending tingles up and down her body.
After a long drive Claire pulled up at the edge of the forest that was growing uphill, dark and unfriendly. "Are we going to walk from now on?" Alina asked with a somewhat shaky voice that revealed her fear.
"No, uncle has his car parked close by, we will draw less attention with it since they don't know how it looks like," Claire replied as they abandoned their current car in search of another. They found it close to some old tree- then again, all the trees in that damned forest seemed old- in a bad shape, as expected. "Well, we are not going far with it anyways," Lucas sighed in resignation as they got in.
Shortly after, Claire parked next to the cabin that was looking as if it has been standing there since the beginning of time. The façade was nearly gone, visible only on some spots that hadn't been completely torn by time. Doors and windows seemed to be in somewhat good shape considering the residents that used to live in the cabin. The only thing that really got their attention were the front doors, which were not completely shut.
"Did you leave it like that?" Claire hissed towards Lucas and he shook his head in response. "Someone was here after me."
"Okay, I'm the only one armed and capable of using a weapon so I'll go first," Claire started but Aisha didn't particularly like the idea of Claire putting herself in danger so she marched forward, making her curse under her breath as she rushed behind her.
Aisha had already pushed the door wide open, taking in the scene in front of her.
There were pieces of wood from broken chairs covering the ground, bookshelf was lying there, nearly crumbled into dust, books scattered all over the floor...and from the ceiling, hung a girl, hanged on the noose. Her body already lost all of its' colour and she looked more like a prop, set there by some prankster, rather than a corpse. Right as the brunette made a connection, recognising the woman to be Claire's friend from New York, she noticed a person standing up from the only non-crashed sofa. Before she could do anything other than blink, she saw a gun in his right hand and heard a tell-tale of a gun-shot.
The pain overpowered her as she fell backwards into Claire's arms. She briefly wondered when her girlfriend had gotten there. The last thing Aisha heard was her scream as darkness overtook her.
