Stiles and Lydia were driving home after spending an eventful holiday weekend with his family. In the car, neither one of them spoke to each other. There was no bickering or complaining.  It was the complete opposite atmosphere from when they drove down to San Diego together. Surprisingly enough, the pictures from their heated make-out in their bedroom weren't released to the public yet, shocking the both of them.

When it was time to drop Lydia off at her house, before she was able to abandon the scene, he stopped her. "Lydia, I do think it's for the best, you know that right?"

Lydia nodded and felt like she was trying to withhold a dam from breaking due to the sensation she had to cry. "Yeah," Lydia plastered a fake smile. "We're like two different coins, so if we ever did really date, then it would be over before we even started."

Stiles shook his head in confirmation. "Yeah, definitely," he replied. Stiles could no longer continue to discuss the recap of the decision they had come to that dating in real life would be a catastrophic idea.  They just called their short-lived make-out session that escalated very quickly a heat of the moment type of thing.  If the photographers hadn't been watching them, then, potentially something drastic could have happened between the two, altering their relationship.  However, that wasn't the case.  "Also, Valerie told me that I'll be picking you up to go to the Teen Choice Awards next Saturday. Did the network send you an e-mail about how we are presenting an award together?"

"The Choice TV: Liplock," Lydia affirmed. "I guess I'll have to make up some sort of introduction."

"We could work on it together?" Stiles suggested.

"No, no, no. It's fine. I can do it." Before Stiles could argue with her, she bid him adieu. "The lack of coffee is starting to get to me. I better go inside. I'll text you and thank your Dad again for inviting me," Lydia said. He couldn't get a word in because Lydia was already unlocking her door.

Stiles could tell that something about Lydia was off. He wasn't stupid, so he knew why, but he didn't know how to fix it. They had just kind of repaired their bumpy friendship road, so was it really a good idea to start fresh with a relationship? It was no doubt a complicated situation since if they didn't try, then they would never know and wonder what if. However, if they were in a relationship, would it last? And if not, would it result in another period of not speaking to the other?

Stiles felt like an idiot. He was passing up his dream girl from when he was a teenager to salvage a friendship that he didn't know how long it would last this time. Whereas, Lydia felt foolish for thinking that he would want to be in a relationship with her. He flat out rejected the idea of it when they talked about it only a few nights prior, making her feel like a piece of worthless garbage to him.  However, Lydia was not trash, rather she was a priceless gem to him.  And the reason why a part of him opposed the idea of being in a relationship with her was because he wanted to keep his precious stone.  Stiles wanted to hold onto Lydia and the best way to do that he figured was by just being friends, nothing more to avoid complications.   After closing the door once she entered, Lydia slid down the door, crying her eyes out.

The pair were anything but two different coins. At times, they may have had their differences and their moments, but don't all couples? In fact, the two were more like two different sides of the same coin.

Saturday

After Hayden, Sydney, and Beth styled Lydia's outfit for the award show, Stiles came to pick her up. Unlike before, their teams were going to meet them at the event. When they arrived, the two did some press. Only this time the young celebrities were escorted to a reporter to do an interview together. Stiles resided his hand around Lydia's waist, pulling her hips towards him.
