Two and a half years after the day Stiles returned home, Matt, Kylie, Jennifer, Parrish, and Aiden were all found guilty.  They were either sent to jail or to mental facilities, a maximum of thirty years for their crimes. Thus, a thorough investigation and a rather extensive trial occurred, leading to information such as the motive to come to light.

Kira Yukimura hosted a televised segment explaining Stiles' abduction that had not only cultivated the United States' interest but also worldwide.

After leaving her makeup trailer, Kira was escorted by her assistant and RA to the stage. Her husband, Josh gave his wife a peck on the cheek before she cat-walked across the stage as her show began. She waved at the camera in her leather boots, dark blue jeans, and forest green top. "Hello, viewers! For all of you who have been following my updates on the abduction of Hollywood actor, Stiles Stilinski, his five abductors were found guilty nearly twenty hours ago. Thus, today I've decided to recap all the evidence to tell the story from start to finish so without further or do let's begin."

Matt created an elaborate plan, one that took years before coming to fruition.  The earliest stage of the plan was Jennifer's interference with Stiles' and Lydia's friendship.  Jennifer only knew to plant a camera in the boy's restroom at the club that night because of a tip that Matt gave her.  He knew Danny was gay because his father and Danny's grandfather were friends, leading the two boys to meet.  Matt soon learned of Danny's male interests so Matt decided to tell Danny that Lydia's best friend, Stiles was interested in him.  Matt had fabricated a story to Danny, portraying Stiles as a closeted bisexual.

Meanwhile, Parrish was loyal to Stiles as his manager, but when Lydia resurfaced into both of their lives, Parrish became jealous of Stiles and what he had with Lydia-real or not.  At the time the Lydia-Stiles-Parrish love triangle emerged, Matt was being groomed by his father to take over the magazine, resulting in him to gain intel on the developing love triangle. Matt made an offer that Jordan was skeptical of at first but eventually complied to, he would expose the arrangement.

In the end, Matt's attempt to drive Lydia and Stiles apart a second time failed, as Parrish and his accomplice, Jennifer were caught after they slipped up. The tip that they sent the paparazzi to ambush the couple at the house the Stilinski family rented for the Fourth of July, uncovered that Parrish had betrayed them. Parrish was responsible.

On a side note, the paparazzi's pictures and footage of Stiles and Lydia were viewed during the case as it was considered evidence. Thus, it became another scandal uncovered during this case, resulting in Stiles and Lydia to be ridiculed and bombarded with questions and rumors about their almost sex tape, even if it was years ago.

All of Kylie's interactions with Stiles were purely out of her own motivation.  Kylie was responsible for interfering with Stiles' relationship with Malia and Lydia.  Kylie hadn't been recruited to Matt's plan until after Stiles and Lydia announced they were going to have their first child.  Matt promised Kylie that she and Stiles would be together.  It was later learned that Kylie had a mental health disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder also known as OCD, explaining why she was so determined to have a life with Stiles.  She was obsessed with him, more specifically, the idea of him.  He had always been so sweet and highly desirable, so Kylie felt it was inevitable that they would end up together.  Her full photo library of Stiles proved just how in love Kylie was with him.

As for Carter-slash-Aiden, his involvement was always for the money.  Until he developed feelings for Lydia, something he tried to fight from the start.  The heist and the shotgun wedding were supposed to happen months before it actually did.  However, Aiden made the mistake of pushing it off.  The more he pushed back the wedding, the stronger his feelings grew, making it more painful leaving her.  Nonetheless, he had to face the guilt, by ripping the bandage off of both of their hearts.
