Shelby's pov

I turned to the people on my left and ran to them. My friends aren't rude and wouldn't act like those on my right. Lizzie sent a wave of water at David, knocking him onto the ground. We bolted past him into the hallway.

"Catch them!" David bellowed, struggling to his feet. The guards quickly ran after us and we ran even faster.

"Here!" Scott motioned to us and we quickly ducked into a room and the guards barreled past the door. I let out a sigh of relief. We were safe for now.

"What are we gonna do?! The doors are locked, the guards are on high alert, and we have a whole set of clones after us!" Lizzie was freaking out and looked as if she was about to start crying. Joel went over and engulfed her in a hug. Everyone sat in silence for a while. The events of today were starting to catch up with us. Max was sitting by himself, curled into the fetal position, and tears were streaming down his face. Ross sacrificing himself was taking its toll on him. I watched Kailey go over to him and rub his back. I could see them talking but I had no idea what they were saying. Kailey seemed to be helping him, so I decided to just leave them alone.

"How about we all just take a minute and re," Derek started to say when the door burst open.

"Ross?"

Max's pov

Kailey had come over to check on me and was whispering encouragement to me when the door burst open.

"Ross?" I quickly stood up and began to run over to Ross. I was quickly pulled back by Kailey, who shook her head.

"Since when does Ross have fox ears and a tail?" Kailey motioned to Ross and I took a long look at him. She was right, Ross had fox ears and a fox tail was swinging behind him. His eyes looked glassed over and he seemed to be swaying. Suddenly he jerked and got a wild look in his eyes. He lunged for Scott and seemed as if he was going to rip Scott's head off. Scott's eyes widened and he jumped out of the way, narrowly missing Ross. Ross growled and began to circle us.

"Ross, buddy? Can you hear me?" I slowly tried to approach Ross. Ross looked at me and I swear I saw a look of recognition in his eyes before he shook his head. He looked back at me and his eyes looked like those of an animal. He lunged at me and I dove out of the way. When Ross hit the floor I jumped on top of him. Joel grabbed some rope from the wall and we tied Ross up.

"What's wrong with him? What did they do to him?" Shelby was freaking out and had started shaking.

"David, that sick. He combined Ross's DNA with a fox's. The animal side is controlling him, and I can't stop it without killing him. Ross will have to fight the animal side," Derek was pacing, and he looked really upset. "I've seen David do it before. The man was able to fight the animal side for a while, but it eventually won. It's all up to Ross on how this will turn out."

"Ross? Buddy please, I know it might be hard, but you gotta fight it. I need you, please Ross, fight," I sat as close to Ross as I dared. He just bared his teeth at me. I looked away and stood up. I walked over to a corner and sat down, curled up into a fetal position, and began to cry.

Lizzie's pov

Max hadn't moved for the past 30 minutes. Shelby had tried to go comfort him but he just snapped at her to go away. Ross was still snarling and fighting against his bonds. Every once in a while he would stop moving and blink for a few moments. Every time he did we got hopeful that Ross had won the fight against his animal side, but he returned to the animal every time. Suddenly Ross completely froze. He began talking to himself and shaking his head. Shelby stood up and walked over to him. Once she reached Ross, he looked up at her. She looked back down at him and hugged him.

"Ross, come on, you almost got it beat. You gotta beat it, we need you," Shelby looked as if she was going to start sobbing when Ross laid his head on her shoulder.

"Shelby?" Ross looked at her, the confusion clear on his face.

"Ross! You did it," Max bolted up from his spot in the corner and ran to Ross. Shelby moved out of his way and Max quickly untied Ross. Max hugged Ross and kissed him passionately. I walked over to Joel and hugged him. Joel didn't even question it and hugged me back.

"I love you," Joel whispered to me.

"I love you too."

"Is Ross gonna be okay now?" Scott turned to Kailey and Derek, who were both smiling from ear to ear.

"I think so. Ross fully returned to his human instincts from what I'm seeing. He should stay like this, and his fox side will help him when he's in severe danger," Kailey looked so happy. She turned to Derek and kissed him. After a few moments, she pulled away, looking embarrassed.

"I-I'm sorry. I d-don't k-know what came over me," Kailey looked as red as a tomato and turned away from Derek. Derek grabbed her arm and pulled her into his chest. He smirked and lowered his lips onto hers. When they finally pulled away Derek had a wide grin on his face and Kailey's face was super red.

"Well then, let's make a game plan guys."
