Ross's pov

I'm not too sure about this Derek guy. Actually, I don't trust him or Kailey. They could be working with David for all we know. Gaining out trust just so they can figure out our weaknesses. I can't let that happen. We've seen what he's capable of. I won't let them hurt my friends!

"Hey, Kailey and Derek, can you come help me with something?" The others gave me weird looks but I ignored them. They both agreed and I motioned for them to follow me.

"You guys can head back upstairs, we'll head up as soon as we're done," Kailey motioned up the stairs as she followed me. Good, now I won't have to worry about taking my time.

David's pov

"Sir! The trust potion you gave the wind user should be active by now. It's only a matter of time before he turns on his friend." Good, soon I'll have those wretched children back in my clutches. All I have to do is wait.

Kailey's pov

I followed Ross into a room out of the hall. The others left to go upstairs so I hope this won't take too long. As soon as Derek and I got into the room the door slammed shut. I whirled around to see Ross. He had this weird look in his eyes. He pushed me down and grabbed Derek. Before he could do anything else I flashed invisible. Ross frantically looked around the room, trying to find me.

"Come on Kailey. I have your friend. You do anything and I'll kill him," Ross pulled a knife out of his boot and held it to Derek's neck.

I can't lose him! After all these years of thinking he had left me I found out the truth. I have to save him.

"Okay, okay. I'm right here, please don't hurt him," I reappeared, staring into Ross's eyes. Something wasn't right with them, but I couldn't quite figure out what.

"Sit." Ross gestured towards the chair, still holding the knife to Derek's throat. I followed his directions, being careful to not make him mad.

"Hey, Ross, it's been about half an hour and I wanted to make sure everything was okay," Max opened the door but completely stopped once he saw the scene before him. "Ross, let him go."

"No! They, they have to be working for David. I won't let them hurt us!"

"Ross, listen to me. They're not going to betray us, you need to let Derek go."

"No, I can," While Max was talking to Ross I managed to sneak up behind him and press a pressure point. He collapsed onto the ground, releasing Derek. Max grabbed him so he couldn't do anything and we all hurried back upstairs.

"Somebody, get a chair!" Max yelled as soon as we were back in the living room. Scott grabbed a chair and Max put Ross down into it, holding him down. "Joel, make some vines or something to hold him down," Joel followed Max's command, immobilizing Ross.

"You two did this! You're turning them against me. Come on guys, don't you see? They're working against us! I was just stopping them." Ross was glaring at Derek and me, his wrists pulling against the vines. A gust of wind pushed me down, making me fly across the room.

"Ugh," I was groaning in pain as I stood up.

"Ross! Stop," Max was frantically trying to reason with Ross, but I knew it wouldn't work. I finally figured out what was wrong with his eyes. Instead of their normal shade of brown, they were tinted green. David. He must have given him a trust potion. Dammit, I didn't know how to break it. Out of the dozens David made me learn this was never one. Before I could speak up I was hit by another gust of wind, except this one was circling around me, creating a vacuum. I gasped for breath, but I couldn't get any air. Ross was going to kill me. The world was turning black, I couldn't stay

a w a k e.

Shelby's pov

"Ross! Stop!" I screamed, rushing over to Kailey. She was trapped in a vacuum, and she was starting to turn blue. I whirled around to look at Ross, but as I looked at him, I knew he wasn't my cousin.

"He's under a trust spell," Derek started as he walked toward Ross. Ross pulled against his bonds, trying to reach out and grab Derek. "I can break it though." Derek reached out and put his hands over Ross's eyes. Ross struggled but stopped once a light started to emit from Derek. He was glowing so bright it was getting hard to look at him. He pulled away after what seemed like hours but was actually only a few seconds.

"What, what's going on?" Ross looked around the room, and once he saw Kailey he gasped. He released her and she fell to the ground, limp.

"Kailey!" Max yelled and ran over to her. The rest of us followed and watched as Max looked to see if she was breathing. All the color from Max's face drained away as he started CPR. We all watched with worry clear on our faces. I didn't want to lose our new friend, the one who helped us escape from David. She still wasn't breathing. I turned to Scott, crying into his chest. Suddenly I heard someone gasp for breath. I looked at Kailey to see her sitting up, the color starting to return to her face. I ran to her along with Derek and we engulfed her in a hug. I heard someone walking up behind us and saw Ross.

"I-I'm so sorry, I don't know what happened, I just thought that you guys were betraying us," Ross was looking at the ground when Kailey stood up and gave him a hug.

"It wasn't your fault, you were under a truth serum," Ross looked relieved as he h

ugged her back. Everything was okay again.

David's pov

No! There's no way they could have broken my serum. It takes weeks to gather all the ingredients and make the antidote, and that's if you're an expert at them. Something's off, and I will figure it out. I won't stop until I have those powers back. They are my right, I created them.
