The stranger

Scott's pov

Shelby and I both fell asleep pretty quickly last night. We still sleep in the same bed because we can't control our temperatures when we're asleep. I woke up to Shelby poking my face and yelling "Beep beep beep".

"What are you doing," I groan as I start to wake up.

"I'm your alarm clock."

"Okay then. Well, we should probably get ready for the day. The others are probably already up." I say as I climb out of bed. We get dressed and head downstairs to see Joel, Max, Lizzie, and Kailey all talking around the table. And someone made pancakes!

"Pancakes!" I ran down the steps and grabbed three and poured a lot of syrup over them.

"Told ya," Lizzie said and held out her hand.

"Scott why," Kailey whined and gave Lizzie 5 bucks.

"What did I do?"

"Lizzie bet me 5 dollars that as soon as you saw the pancakes you would flip out, and I now lost 5 bucks," Kailey explained while she pouted.

"Have a pan

cake, it'll make you feel better," Joel said as he took another one. Kailey grabbed one and spread peanut butter on it before pouring syrup over it.

"That doesn't look very appealing," Max said as he eyed Kailey's plate.

"Try a piece, they're delicious," Kailey offered Max her plate and he cautiously took a piece. He popped it in his mouth and his eyes got super wide.

"That's amazing!" Max said with his mouth full. He reached for another piece and Kailey smacked his hand away.

"Mine," Kailey said as she brought her pancakes closer. Max rolled his eyes and made himself a peanut butter and syrup pancake.

"Where's Ross?" Shelby questioned as she ate some of her pancakes.

"Still sleeping," Max said as he continued to stuff his face.

"Why haven't we woken him up? You know he'll sleep till noon if no one does," Shelby said as she stood up. She walked up the stairs and we could hear some faint yelling. A few minutes later Shelby came down the steps with Ross right behind her. Ross sat down and quickly ate a pancake.

"Okay, since everyone's up I was thinking we could go train with our powers," Kailey said and looked at all of us. We all agreed and she told us to go get changed. She said something about training uniforms in our rooms. We agreed to meet up in half an hour.

Ross's pov

Max and I found our training uniforms and put them on. Max's was black with red accents and mine was black with gray accents.

"Dude, we're supposed to be meeting up with everyone right now! Let's go." Max said as he pushed me out the door. We ran down the steps and hurried into the living room.

"Now that we're all here, follow me," Kailey called out over her shoulder as she started to walk away. We all ran after her as she started to walk down the steps to the basement. None of us had been down there yet, which might have had something to do if the big do not enter sign right next to the stairwell. We walked down what seemed like hundreds of steps before we finally got to the bottom. Kailey suddenly froze and motioned for us all to be quiet. She crept towards a doorway and turned invisible right before she went in. There was a sudden shout and Kailey soon appeared back in the hall with some guy. She was holding his hands behind his back and you could tell he was in some pain.

"What the hell are you doing here? The last time I saw you you were running away from me. We were supposed to escape together! I suffered so much because you left me behind! I should kill you right now," Kailey was shouting, and tears had started to form in her eyes.

"Kailey, what are you talking about? Neither of us escaped. David was going to sell you, and I wouldn't let him. I took your place! I managed to escape on the journey there and I came back to help you, but once I got there, David saw me. He killed you right in front of me!" The guy Kailey was holding was also shouting. Kailey let go of him and hugged him.

"They used the machine, didn't they," she muttered into his shoulder. She had started to cry by now and you could see her shoulders shaking. All they did was nod and run her back. I couldn't take it anymore.

"Who the ever living hell is this?"

Kailey slowly pulled away from her embrace and wiped her eyes. "This is my friend, Derek."
