Fear and History

Max's pov

I'm so glad that Nick decided to help us. When he went to fix Kailey we all decided to watch a movie to pass the time. After a lot of arguing we finally decided on the new Beauty and the Beast. I have to admit, it was amazing. Ross nuzzled into me as we watched, and I couldn't help but smile at how cute he was. Whenever one of the songs started he sang along with Lizzie and Shelby.

"Hey guys," my head whirled around to see Kailey standing in the doorway. I jumped up and went to give her a hug. When I got close to her and wrapped my arms around her I noticed she flinched but returned my hug before anyone else noticed.

"You okay?" I made sure no one else could hear us as I continued to hug her. I felt her lightly nod and I slowly let her go. She tugged at her sleeves and went to sit by herself. I was worried about her, she seemed like she was hiding something. I'll talk to her later about it, just to make sure she's okay. I watched Derek go to sit next to her, but when he tried to touch her she just scooted away. Something is definitely going on with her, and I'm going to figure out what it is, after all, she's like a sister to me.

Kailey's pov

What is wrong with me? Why can't I just be normal and not get scared when people try to touch me?

"Kailey, can I talk to you for a minute, alone?" I was shaken from my thoughts by Max, who held out his hand to me. Instead of taking it I stood on my own and motioned for him to lead the way. A look of hurt flashed across his face before he shook it off and smiled at me. I followed him to one of the rooms in the cabin I had found with Derek all those years ago, now that was a fun time. He held the door open and motioned for me to go inside.

"So what do you want to talk about," I asked him as I looked at the baby blue walls of a room I had shared on that weekend, my first weekend I had been away from David in many years. I heard Max shut the door and I turned to face him. My eyes widened as he started to walk closer to me. I backed up until my back hit the wall. Max was less than a foot away from me, and I was starting to panic. He lifted his arm and I fell to the ground, cowering.

"Kailey?" Max lowered his arm and looked at me, the worry clear on his face.

"Please don't hurt me, please. I'll do whatever you want me to, just please," I had tears streaming down my face and I was curled into the fetal position.

"Kailey, it's me. I would never hurt you. Please, tell me what happened to you. I just want to help, please Kailey," Max fell to the floor next to me and wrapped me in a hug. He just rubbed my back as I continued to sob.

"D-David, he, he hurt me so much," I let everything spill out, everything that David did while he had me locked up.

"Shh Shh, it's all over now. I promise that I will never let David touch you ever again. The next time I see that bastard I swear," Max continued to rub my back as he comforted me. I finally calmed down and sat up.

"Thank you," my voice was barely above a whisper, I was so worn out. Max picked me up and set me down on the bed.

"You need to rest. We'll come get you in a bit, okay?" Max tucked me in and I gave a feeble nod. I could already feel myself falling asleep, not bothering to try to stay awake. I faintly hear Max saying love you, and kissing my forehead.

"Love you too."

Shelby's pov

Max had left with Kailey a while ago, and I'm glad he decided to talk to her. Those two are like siblings, and I could tell she was really hurting.

"So, what's the plan," Nick broke the silence as soon as the movie ended.

"The plan for what?" I turned to him and gave him a confused look.

"The plan to take down David, duh," Nick rolled his eyes as he looked at me as if I was an idiot.

"We don't have one yet. Kailey and Yukari just escaped from him, we want to give them some time before we go back," Lizzie looked at Nick as she explained why we weren't going back yet.

"Of course you are. Listen, David is dangerous. He has a whole army of people with magic that he can use at any time. We need to stop him as soon as possible, before he starts a war," Nick coldly explained to us what David was capable of, and why we had to go as soon as possible.

"Kailey and Yukari were tortured by that man! We barely even know what he did to them. He had Kailey for years, years goddammit! She thought she was finally free of him, and he goes and gets her right back. He messed with her mind, he tortured her. She will barely let anyone touch her! She just had a breakdown just thinking about what he did. If she saw him again, I'm not sure what she would do. And Yukari, she barely talks! She's scared to death that we're going to hurt her if she so much as utters a word. And you want us to bring them right back there? They might not be able to handle it, and I don't want to know what will happen if they snap," Max appeared in the doorway, and he was pissed. He had sparks jumping off him, and I could feel the static electricity in the air. Nick took a step back and a flash of regret crossed his face.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know about all that. It's just that, David, he's become more unstable okay? Ever since he found out about magic, he's gone crazy trying to get more powerful. We, we used to be friends, when we were younger," Nick sighs and sinks down into the couch. "Before he went insane, we would hang out all the time. This was before I became a demon, and before he started messing with serums and stuff. We were the best of friends, but then, he started to mess around with serums. He was great at them, full of natural talent. He mastered every one in the books at the library within weeks, so he started making his own. He made one that stopped him from aging. He was obsessed with getting more power. He started messing with stuff he shouldn't have, and I got dragged into it. He made a potion of influence and used it on me. It didn't go as planned though, instead of making it so that I could influence people to do what I wanted, it turned me into this. I could make people do whatever I wanted, I could even control their thoughts. It gave me the horns and tattoos, it made me into a demon. I couldn't stay anymore, I caused too much terror and fear. I left this realm, made my own place in hell. When people heard about me they began to summon me, use me. I hated it, and I hate him for doing this to me," Nick finished his story and leaned back against the couch. Cory wrapped his arm around him and pulled him into a hug.

"Nick, I'm so sorry, that sounds awful," I can't believe David would do that to his own friend.

"I promise, we're going to stop David, we just need to give Kailey and Yukari some time before we bring them back there," Max looked at Nick, his face filled with determination. "Two weeks. Two weeks to plan and get ready. Then we're going after David, and we're going to take him down, I promise," Nick nodded and I could see the relief on his face. I'm looking forward to taking David down and making him pay for what he's done to my friends.
