Joel's pov
"So guys, as much as I love this creepy castle, I think it's time to get the heck out of here," everyone easily agreed with me and we made our way out into the hallway. We quickly ran to the end of the hall and ducked behind a corner. I peaked out and made sure it was all clear. I motioned to everyone that it was safe and we sprinted down to the next corner. We repeated this a few more times before we came across some guards. I put my fingers to my lips and pointed to the side hall a little ways down. We all quickly ran to it, making sure the guards couldn't see us.
"What are we gonna do?" Shelby looked very worried and a little scared.
"Leave it to me," Kailey gave us a small smile before she flashed invisible. We watched as she took the two guards down quickly and quietly. She reappeared and motioned for us to go. We quickly ran the rest of the way, and before we knew it, we had reached the doors to outside.
"Yes! We're finally free," Max was doing a small victory dance while Lizzie and I got the doors open. We flung the doors open to be greeted by the moonlight. We all dashed outside and were about to make our way to the forest when we saw something that made my blood run cold. David and a group of soldiers behind him.
"Well, you're not free yet, and you're not going to be either. I must admit, you did get closer than anyone else before. You're all quite the slippery bunch, but I'm afraid you didn't quite make it," David gave us a sympathetic frown, which quickly turned into a smirk. "Grab 'em." The guards ran towards us, ready to grab us. Before they could quite reach us Lizzie created a bubble of water around us.
"Guys, I won't be able to hold this for long, what are we going to do?" You could see the strain on Lizzie's face as she struggled to keep the guards out.
"We're gonna fight our way out," Max summoned a lightning bolt and the rest of us gave a quiet nod and got ready to defend ourselves. "As soon as you can, head to the woods, okay?" Max looked to each of us as we nodded
"Everyone ready?" Lizzie looked at each of us. We all nodded and she took a deep breath, and let down the barrier.
Ross's pov
As soon as Lizzie released her dome of water the guards rushed to us. We all fought our way through them. Joel was the first one able to make it to the woods, but I could see him hovering at the edge of them. Shelby made her way there next, then Cory, Scott, and finally Lizzie. Max, Kailey, Derek, and I were the only ones left. Scott managed to get away and rushed to the others.
"AHHHHHH," I turned towards the source of the scream and saw Kailey falling to the ground. The guards quickly rushed her and grabbed her so she couldn't get away.
"Kailey!," Derek, Max, and I all yelled and tried to make our way over to her.
"No! Get out of here, I'll be fine. Derek, make sure to get them to safety," Kailey yelled to us as more guards went over to help restrain her.
"No! I won't leave you!" Derek shouted as he continued to fight off the guards.
"Don't worry about the rest of them! Focus on Kailey," David screamed at the guards, who seemed to be having trouble keeping Kailey contained. She was thrashing around, screaming at us to go.
"Come on!" I dragged Max away and I saw that Joel had come back to get Derek. We got Max and Derek to the woods and finally got them to come willingly. Derek was crying as we ran through the woods. Once we got far enough we decided to take a break. We were all in a rather somber mood as we began thinking about how we left Kailey. Derek was by himself, silently rocking back and forth as sobs shook his whole body.
"How could we just leave her?! After all she did for us," Max had gone from sad to angry in seconds. He was pacing back and forth, ranting about us leaving her.
"We didn't have a choice. Getting caught ourselves wouldn't help her," Shelby was trying to calm Max down, but it wasn't working.
"Enough," I whirled around to see Derek standing up with a determined look on his face. "Kailey wouldn't want us to sit here feeling all upset. She told me to get you guys to safety and that's what I'm going to do. I know a place a little ways away from that I found a few years back when Kailey and I were running an errand for David. If we leave now we'll make it there by tomorrow evening." He looked at us and we started off on our journey.
David pov
"Well look at this, just like the old days," I chuckled as I looked at Kailey, all tied up for me like a present. She growled at me, causing me to chuckle. "Looks like you got your fire back, just like you had when I first got you, except feistier." I flicked her nose and smirked at her. I turned away and grabbed a few serums.
"Just like I thought, using serums to do the work for you," She laughed at me while giving me a smirk. "You can't do anything on your own, you have to rely on your serums to take care of your problems." She was mocking me. The nerve!
"You know what? I think you're right, it's time I did something myself," I set the serums down, grabbed a knife, and walked over to her. "You're in for a bad time."
"Do your worst," She spit in my face. I wiped it off and gave a small smile. This is gonna be fun.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey guys! I hope you all enjoyed the chapter. I'm sorry updates have been slow, but my schedule is filled to the brim right now. I have softball every day until 7, sometimes 8, and I have to do all this stuff for school to get ready for high school. But School gets out for me on the 26, so I should be able to get chapters out faster after that. As always If any of you want to be in the book, just leave some information in the comments and I'll be sure to write you in. I hope you all had an amazing day and an even better tomorrow! Bye
