-"I love your apartment!" Avery says while slowly spinning around my living room, taking a good look at it.
Earlier today we met for a coffee at the same place we did last week. We talked for a little more than an hour and then Avery asked me if we could take a walk, since it was such a sunny day. We walked around the park near Grizto and I watched her while she took some pictures of the ducks in the pound.
It really was a beautiful day for a walk in the park and the sight of Avery, only a few meters from me, taking pictures was even better. She was so focused and committed to it. If I had a camera myself, I would be photographing her.
She would sometimes look over and apologize for taking too long. Looking up and down at her body, I would tell her to take her time and that I was enjoying the view. I could see a slight blush on her face when I said things like that, although she would quickly hide behind her camera.
Truth is, I was more than enjoying the view. I had this sensation of being flooded with warmth. A warmth not related to the sun, that was already setting. Not once I thought I'd rather be somewhere else, with someone else.
It was almost 7 p.m. when we started to feel hungry. Avery had already stored her camera for a while and we had been sitting on a bench, talking about her photography.
She offered me a ride home, although I live 15 minutes away from the park, so we walked over to her car passing through a restaurant. The delicious smell that came from inside of it was torture for two starving girls. I stopped and asked her if she would like to order something and since she would drop me off at my place, we could have dinner there. I bold move that I didn't expect to make. The day had been great so far and I didn't want it to be over so soon. Besides, I really was hungry and that food smelled delicious. I did the math and this was a great decision.
So, now we're in my apartment.
My studio apartment is cozy. The entrance is on the left side of it and once you open the door you can already see the entire apartment, except for the bathroom. Near the door, there's a coffee table and a couch facing the TV. Behind the couch is the kitchen with a dining table. On the right side of the apartment is my room. A king-sized bed, a desk and a wardrobe are the only things in it. A see-through dividing wall made of wood separates the living area from my room. The only interior door is the one for the bathroom, also on the right side of the apartment, in front of my room.
I'm setting up the table while Avery is still analyzing her surroundings. After that, we sit and talk about our families through dinner. She told me about her divorced parents and her 10-year-old half-sister, Catherine. I told her I'm an only child, but I have a big family with cousins that grew up with me. We talked about high school and the differences between the American and the Italian education system.
After we finished dinner, Avery is helping me doing the dishes.
-"So...Emma...?" She drags her words and I look at her, fearing what will come next. "I know you didn't want to talk about it, but I'm curious about that song."
-"You listened to it?" I ask her, smiling.
-"Yes. It's a great song by the way." She says while drying the plates before putting them on the shelf. "You have a big family that you love and you get along with everyone."
-"Uh-huh..." I look at her, narrowing my eyes, not sure of where this is going.
-"You also have great friends, that you love and miss every day." She keeps going, now stopping what she was doing.
