I hear movements next to me and I start to stretch my body in bed.
-"How long have you been awake?" I ask after unsuccessfully trying to clear my hoarse voice three times.
-"Not long. I just went to the bathroom and I'm pretty sure I'm still slightly drunk." Avery answers while laying next to me, and hugging me from behind.
-"I need to go too, but I'm afraid of getting up." I whimper.
After drifting to a short sleep and waking up again not able to resist the urge to pee, I finally get up and go to the bathroom.
I also go to the kitchen and grab two bottles of water that we both drink in one go.
-"Thank you for coming sooner, Ems." Avery says between kisses in my neck and jawline. "I will never forget this Christmas present."
-"You're welcome." I kiss her on the lips. "And speaking of presents...There's another one I want to give you."
-"What?" She says, confused. "No more presents, Emma. One is more than enough. You're all that I want."
-"Sweet." I kiss her nose before reaching for the nightstand behind me and grab a small box. "I was supposed to give it to you when we arrived home, but..."
-"Oh god, are you gonna propose to me?" She says, mocking me.
-"Would it be that bad?" I lift my eyebrows and try to hide a smile.
-"No. But as far as I remember we were both on the same page regarding marriage."
-"Yeah, but things change. That was last year."
-"Oh you're one of those?" She says and I narrow my eyes in confusion. "One of those that says the 'last year' joke during the first weeks?"
-"What if I am?"
-"Then, I would have to say 'no'." She shakes her head.
-"Well, luckily I'm not proposing." I say as I smack her arm playfully. "But it's still a yes or no question...more or less...it's not even a question, actually..."
-"Emma..." She laughs as she reaches for the box. "Just let me see."
-"Oh, you suddenly like presents?" I pull back the gift.
-"I never disliked them. Besides, so far I love 100% of your gifts." She leans forward and kisses me, distracting me so she could take the box from my hands.
-"Let's see..." She opens the box carefully, revealing a key.
-"Move in with me." I say and look at her expectantly.
-"You were right when you said it wasn't really a question." She chuckles.
-"Oh." Suddenly I'm not as confident as before. "Would you move in with me? Is it too soon? You don't have to move in, you can just come over whenever you want, leave some stuff..."
-"Leave a toothbrush?" She asks, amused.
-"You already have one here."
-"Leave some of my clothes in a drawer?" She continues as she gets closer to me.
-"You also have them here."
-"Hmm..." She looks around the room. "Oh. Some books that I read?"
-"Okay, okay! I get it." I push her face away. "It's not too soon, it's too late. Is that what you're implying?"
-"No." She laughs. "I'm proving to you that it's not too soon. Because if I simply said 'No, Emma, it's not too soon', you would ask..."
-"Are you sure?" I interrupt her, finishing her sentence. We both laugh and she shakes her head.
-"It's a great way to start the year." She says, kissing my forehead.
-"My thoughts exactly." I give her a slow and short kiss before snuggling closer to her. "For the record, I didn't change my opinion about marriage."
-"That it's nothing more than a legal contract with a huge party?" I feel her body shaking with each giggle.
-"Exactly." I mumble against her chest. "There will be better contracts in our life. We don't need that one."
-"You know that I agree with you. And...What other contracts?" She asks, curiously.
-"A housing contract, for instance. And electricity, water. Also, maybe...adoption papers."
-"Adoption papers?" She moves back a little to face me.
-"Yeah. Adoption papers." I state.
-"You would like to adopt?" She asks, smiling.
-"I guess....Yes, I would like to. But, we'll discuss that when we get there, alright?" She nods and I smile back. "No marriage and adoption. How's that for you?"
-"Are you putting all of your cards on the table?" She chuckles.
-"I am. If you want to run, you better do it now. But please don't run." I lean forward to kiss her.
-"I'm okay with that. I'm more than okay." We kiss and snuggle, again.
After a short moment of silence, I feel her body shaking with laugher so I look up to see her amused face.
-"What?" I ask, almost laughing with her without knowing why.
-"We have to have a daughter!" She says between laughs, almost incomprehensibly.
-"A daughter?" I chuckle. "Why?"
-"Emery."
-"What?" I start laughing with her, although I'm still confused.
-"Emery. We'll call her Emery." Her eyes start to get watery from all the laughing.
-"Oh. You decided that already?" She nods. "Without consulting me? In less than 5 minutes before we discussed the adoption option?"
-"Yes. These are my cards on the table." She kisses me, still giggling.
-"Emery?" She nods and I start to think about the name. "Oh my god, Avery."
-"Do you get it?"
-"Emma and Avery. Emery?" I laugh too, now fully understanding that it's a combination of our own names.
-"We have to have a daughter." She says once again.
-"We really do." I say, laughing against herchest.
