I'm confused.
I'm happy and I'm upset so, I'm confused.
I'm happy because Avery is, well...being Avery. The girl that flirts almost naturally. The girl that has a strong confidence that shines through those mischievous eyes and it's mirrored in her half smile. I'm happy because not long ago I didn't think we would get back to have nice conversations with occasional playful flirts.
I'm happy because she's trying, and I'm happy...no, I'm ecstatic that she doesn't seem to be making an effort to do so.
Like I said, it's natural.
But I'm also upset. Upset that she didn't kiss me.
And why didn't I kiss her? Well, at this point you already know that I miss out on many opportunities due to fear. Fear of rejection, fear of doing it wrong, fear of being silly while trying to be seductive...I just start planning my every move and it ruins the moment, it gets awkward.
Right now, for instance, I'm picturing myself taking the knife out of her hand, slam it on the table, push her against the fridge and kiss her.
But I won't do it.
Especially not after what happened. If she really wanted to kiss me, then she would've. She should've.
She's probably just playing games because it's too soon for it to happen, given our circumstances...right?
We shouldn't rush it so, she's just teasing.
I can play that game, too!
Okay, maybe not, but I'll surely get my revenge...eventually.
-"What are you thinking about?" She interrupts my thoughts, still wearing that cocky half smile on her face.
-"I'm not gonna tell you!" I say, looking seriously upset. "Aren't you going to try the cake?"
-"I am..." She grabs a piece and takes a bite. Even while chewing, she's still has that stupid smile. "I was just waiting in case I suddenly got my mouth busy with other stuff."
-"Right...Not busy with talking because you clearly can do both at the same time." I point to her scoffing, and walk to the couch.
I hear cabinet doors opening, plates and glasses clicking behind me, in the kitchen. After a while she comes to the couch with cake and more iced tea.
-"You look upset. Cake will make you feel better." She says, offering me the plate with the cake slices and trying to make a puppy face.
-"Are you using the cake I made for you, to make me feel better?" I ask, incredulous.
-"Yes, I am. I know it worked for me when I got here..." Again, a smile. Not a cocky one this time, thank god.
-"Wait. Were you not feeling good?" I ask, worried.
-"I was feeling really good, actually. But...you never cooked for me and I know your friends love it when you do it for them so, it was a good surprise..."
-"That's sweat but...making a cake is baking. It's not cooking." I try to look conceited.
-"Just take the hint..." She winks at me. Her request got me by surprise and I like the idea.
-"Okay. Then, what do you want to eat?" I ask, feeling confident as well and wanting to surprise her. A mischievous smile starts forming on her face and she looks at me suggestively. I stop her before she can say anything. "Risotto! It's settled."
-"Cute." She laughs, probably because I'm blushing, which only made me blush even harder.
I immediately start going through Netflix and ask her what movie she would like to watch.
