Holy shit! My head! Is it morning already?

Slowly, I open one eye just enough to see that indeed, it's morning already.

I feel a throbbing pain in my head. What a massive hangover I'm having.

After debating whether or not to stand up, I cautiously shift to a sitting position. Now with both my eyes semi open, reality hits me.

Avery! Avery's room. Avery's bed. But where's Avery?

I remember falling asleep last night, waiting for her to come talk to me, and to bring me some water.

Water!

I look at the side table and notice a plastic cup and a half empty bottle of water. She must've brought them while I was sleeping and I didn't notice, although I clearly drank half this water during the night. But where is she, now?

I drink the other half of the water and with much effort I stand up from the bed.

I don't hear noises outside the bedroom, so I take a risk and go find the bathroom. I comb my hair with my fingers, as much as possible, wash my face with cold water, and brush my teeth with my index finger using toothpaste from an unknown user. My morning breath after a night out is terrible, even worse when I don't brush my teeth before sleeping (which doesn't happen, I promise, but last night I was expecting a conversation with Avery, after which I would go to the bathroom to pee and brush my teeth).

I open the bathroom door and put my head out trying to hear a noise. I don't hear anything and I get even more curious about Avery's whereabouts.

Did she even sleep in her bed?

Oh no! Tell me you didn't sleep on the couch, Ave.

I run, barefoot and as quietly as possible, to the living room. No one is sleeping in the couch.

I sigh in relief and I freeze once I hear glass clicking in the kitchen.

Avery?

I enter the kitchen slowly and I realize it's not Avery, but Rose.

-"Good morning." I speak with a terrible hoarse voice.

-"Morning." She turns to me. "Coffee?"

-"Please." I smile. "And water."

She chuckles and gets me a glass of water.

I take a seat at the table while she's making coffee. There's an awkward silence between us.

While waiting for the coffee to brew, she stares at the machine, avoiding to look at me.

-"Where's Avery?" I ask with a less hoarse voice, but still not normal.

-"Sleeping." She looks at me while speaking, and sees my confused look. "In my bed."

-"Oh." I nod my head a couple times.

-"Listen, Emma. Last night..." She begins as she sits next to me bringing two mugs with coffee. "I'm sorry for being so aggressive."

-"No, Rose. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have given you attitude. I want you to like me, but last night...being drunk and you talking about all the ignored texts from Avery..."

-"I'm sorry for that too. You're right, I shouldn't take charge of her cellphone. But, since her last "girlfriend" I'm just that protective." She air quotes the word 'girlfriend' and looks at me apologetically.
